Coral Bay is a quaint little town some 150km south of Exmouth in Western Australia, but what it lacks in size, it sure makes up for in adventure.

If you're into water activities, Coral Bay is the place for you. Set along the Ningaloo Reef, there are heaps of activities to keep you busy, from snorkelling along the famous reef, to swimming with whale sharks and spending the day fishing or spotting humpback whales. Here's why you should consider a holiday in Coral Bay.

Swim with whale sharks
Ningaloo Reef is one of the few places in the world where you can swim with the world's biggest fish, the whale shark, a docile giant of the ocean. Ningaloo Reef Dive will organise everything you need, from sending out the spotter plane to find the whale sharks, to all your equipment, meaning you can concentrate on enjoying the experience. Tours are $270 and run during March and July.

Swim with manta rays
Despite the fact that manta rays have been known to grow as big as nine metres in length, these imposing creatures are actually harmless. Manta rays inhabit the waters along Coral Bay and it is one of the few places in the world where you can swim with them. Like the whale shark tours, a manta ray tour operator will find them using spotter planes, meaning you're highly likely to get the opportunity to swim with manta rays.

Snorkel along Ningaloo Reef
Coral Bay is one of Western Australia's premier destinations for snorkelling. You can either buy your own equipment and head off from Bill's Bay, Paradise Beach or Five Fingers Reef, or take a guided snorkel tour . Whichever you decide, you can be sure there'll be colourful coral, magnificent native fish and other fantastic marine life to spot.

Hire a fishing boat
If you love fishing, the pristine waters off Coral Bay are perfect for fishing or for organising your own morning of whale watching. You can hire a boat out using Exmouth Boat Hire , who will drop the boat off and pick it up, making it a hassle free way to get out on the ocean. You will need a valid WA Skippers Ticket before attempting to hire a boat.

Spend a day on the pristine coastline
Coral Bay has a beautiful stretch of beach known as Bill's Bay from which you can snorkel, paddleboard, kayak or wade through the crystal clear water or simply work on your tan. There are barbeque areas located close to the shoreline if you fancy a barbeque picnic on the beach.

Go scuba diving
If there's one way to get up close and personal with all the colourful marine life living along the Ningaloo Reef, it is by scuba diving. Coral Bay has several dive shops to choose from, including Ningaloo Reef Dive , who will provide all the equipment you need for a spectacular diving experience.

Ride a quad bike or 4 x 4 buggy
With a quad bike tour, you can combine the thrill of a quad bike ride with a bit of snorkelling or watching the beautiful sunset on the beach. You can hire a two-seater quad, or load the family into a Can Am Commander 4x4 and take off for an adventure. Trek Adventures&site=1&siteid=8396 Coral Bay Tours have treks starting from $110, while Coral Coast Tours organise the 4x4 tours, which start from $100.

Go kayaking
The calm waters around Bill's Bay make kayaking a wonderful pastime in Coral Bay. You might be lucky enough to spot a turtle, manta ray or one of the hundreds of different marine life calling the area home. Ningaloo Kayak Adventures can supply glass bottom canoes, see-through boogie boards, snorkelling equipment and wetsuits, and kayaking hire starts from $40.

Fish Feeding
Fish feeding takes place at Town Beach every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3:30pm. You'll get the opportunity to see and feed the resident nor-west snapper, parrotfish, mullet and more.

Eat and Drink
From Shade's Café at Ningaloo Reef Resort , to Fin's Café and the newly opened Bill's Tavern , Coral Bay sure has a lot of places for eating and drinking for a small town. The pizza at The Reef Cafe was some of the best I've had in Western Australia, while the local bakery was a popular spot for coffee and scrummy cheesymite scrolls each morning. Bill's Tavern is located conveniently close to the Ningaloo Club Backpackers , while Fin's Café is right next to the Bayview Camping Ground and The Reef Cafe is located within the People's Park Camping Ground .

Coral Bay is located approximately 11 hours drive from Perth or a two hour flight to the nearest airport at Learmonth, Exmouth. It is a beautiful place to visit, with a myriad of activities to offer and makes for a great holiday destination for families, couples and singles alike.
