I enjoy writing about Adelaide and its many attractions. If you think Adelaide is boring, the problem is not with Adelaide. adelaideunearthed.blogspot.com.au/

Highlights of What's On in Adelaide in June
I can almost hear a collective sigh of relief from history fans, as we wave goodbye to South Australia's History Festival for another year. There were so many fun things to do in Adelaide last weekend that I couldn't possibly see everything I wanted to. But if you are looking for more of a history fix, then try the Prospect Hill Historical Museum this month for something quite different.

Now is the time to remember our indigenous history during National Reconciliation Week, and the 50th anniversary to recognise Aborigines in the Constitution. To commemorate this milestone in human rights there was a Reconciliation Walk to Colebrook Park, and free showings of Black Screen at Marion, and Wonggayerlo - Footprints In The Sand theatre at Prospect.

If you missed the Clare Gourmet Weekend in May, don't despair - the McLaren Vale Sea and Vines Festival returns on the June long weekend with a feast of fun things to do. Gourmet dinners, tastings, master classes, family entertainment and more, don't miss it!

What's On in Adelaide - Free Things to Do in June
June is quite lean on free things to do in Adelaide, although Fork on the Road will pull the crowds back to Harts Mill at Port Adelaide on Saturday the 3rd.

There are many markets happening this month -
at Urrbrae, in Blackwood, Port Elliot, and Meadows, Strathalbyn and Prospect so retail therapy is definitely an easy option. Dress warmly and take your umbrella as some of these country places get rather cold.

Asthma is becoming much more common nowadays, and if it affects you (or someone in your family) then check out the free Live Well With Asthma workshop on June 19.

A new exhibition at the Army Museum of South Australia opened this month commemorating Our Lighthorsemen and the centenary of the Battle of Beersheba. It's part of the rolling Anzac Centenary celebrations in SA, and is open every Sunday or by appointment.

Also just opened is a brand new museum, the Centre of Democracy - a collaboration between the History Trust of SA and the State Library of South Australia. It's offering a busy program of free things to do aimed at all ages, with a variety of activities for kids to encourage families to visit.

Not Free, but Fun Things to Do in Adelaide
People interested in sustainability and treating the environment well should come to the World Environment Fair at the Adelaide Showgrounds on June 3-4. You can take a tour of one of the world's largest solar panel setups, explore a marine park, and there's activities for kids with freebies and nature play. Supported by the SA Government through DEWNR.

Also concerned about our environment are the Environmental Defenders Office, who are holding an entertaining Energy Hypothetical in Adelaide on June 8. Come along for the comedy capers and to help this not-for-profit agency keep the environment safe.

The June long weekend is the time to catch the South Australian Truck and Ute Show at Mannum, see talented kids in Matilda the Musical, or savour fabulous food and wine at the Sea and Vines 2017 in McLaren Vale. Dedicated foodies will also put Winter Solstice 1.0 at the Producers Bar in their diaries too.

Other Exciting Things to See and Do in Adelaide
There may not be many festivals in June, but there are plenty of other things all about South Australia. Down near Mount Gambier there's an awesome display of ghost mushrooms which glow in the dark. While you're down there, discover the best Limestone Coast restaurants after you visit the farmers' market.

The long weekend is a sensible time to appreciate the beauty of the Flinders Ranges, perhaps try glamping in Wilpena Pound, or see unique stoned buildings in Wilmington.

Train spotters can delight in railway memorabilia at Port Elliot Railway and Seaport Museum or get taken for a ride at SAMEE Park model railway.

I'm saving some tasty morsels until the end, with new reviews from our writers of Gong Korean BBQ Restaurant, Bite Mi Vietnamese street food, Inside Moroccan Cafe, and the quite unique Mallee Fowl Restaurant. All is not lost for vegetarians - Lord of the Fries serves hot dogs and burgers without meat, while vegans can be confident that Cherry Darlings is cruelty-free.

When the pangs of hunger are gnawing, you need an 'all you can eat' meal like from the Hahndorf Old Mill Hotel. Also for anyone with a solid appetite the Coopers Alehouse and these restaurants will safely satisfy you.
