Highlights of What's On in Adelaide in July
The July school holidays can be a challenge for parents, finding fun things to do for their children. People in the Port Adelaide area are well set up this year with plenty of fun for kids at the
Winterfest Festival at Hart's Mill, although not many are free during the extended festival this year. But you don't have to go to Winterfest for ice skating - there are other skating rinks at
Glenelg and in
Adelaide .
Also in Adelaide, the former Royal Adelaide Hospital comes alive for
a free Open Day on July 11, but book quickly to catch the free tour. The demand is currently huge for the
Dark History tours of the old hospital - it's a unique opportunity for a sneak peek at forbidden places.
Other school holidays highlights offer free
activities for kids at museums , and
the annual fun fair at the National Railway Museum.
What's On in Adelaide - Free Things to Do in July
There are still a couple of weeks in July to enter the
Heritage Snaps competition and win a prize for a photo of a State heritage listed place. It's easy if you take
a free guided walk in Belair National Park, because the entire park is heritage listed. There are also free guided
walks in the parklands in July, and you can see an exhibition of art for the
Adelaide Parklands Art Prize at the Festival Centre.
Join in the free things to do at
Hybrid World Adelaide on the weekend of July 21-22, with exciting action, like drone racing, combat robot fights and competitive video gaming - it's a must for the school holidays. A few days later you can learn (free) how to grow your own food at
Magic Harvest in Salisbury.
Not Free, but Fun Things to Do in Adelaide
Transport is a recurring theme on Sunday July 1 - you can take the
South Coast Wine Train for a gourmet experience on the Fleurieu Peninsula, or enjoy Floating Melodies
Myth and Music aboard the clipper "City of Adelaide".
Treat yourself to to a tasty time at the
Adelaide Beer and BBQ Festival the following weekend, marvel at the splendour of the
Age of Elegance exhibition before it ends, or discover how to become
plastic free at workshops . Later in the month enjoy the open garden
at Stangate House .
Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary has just started a new program in time for the school holidays - the
Warrawong Junior Keeper Experience gives children a unique opportunity to feed and look after native animals at the sanctuary. It's available most days of the year, so if you want to do this in the holidays you had better book soon.
Other Exciting Things to See and Do in Adelaide
Our foodies have been out and about in the last month, find you a great new brunch spot at
Two Sparrows Coffee & Kitchen . For succulent seafood head to
The Oyster Bar and you will find fine falafels at the
Rustic Fig Cafe .
Down in Mount Gambier, the
fight for the roundhouse the locals have had a temporary win. The roundhouse has been provisionally State heritage listed, and the scheduled demolition has been put on hold for now. A great win for the local community, but the fight continues to save it.
For something a little different, follow new writer Jack on his
adventures at Second Valley , or join Barry on a nature hunt for
parrots parrots at Regency Park .
