The historical arm of the city has its own local flavour with plenty of things to do for locals and visitors to Sydney alike. Below are some of the top things that can be enjoyed while spending time at The Rocks, and these activities are not in any particular order.
1. Museum of Contemporary Art
The re-opening of the Museum of Contemporary Art in March will be spectacular, especially as this area has been a construction site for quite some time. Plus there are some promising shows on tour in the next few months.
2. Sydney Theatre Company
Wash Bay makes way for entertaining and unique theatre. The Sydney Theatre Company also provides a great opportunity to eat out along the wharf with stunning views of Sydney Harbour.
With your choice of different bike tours, the added bonus is that you will be riding quality bikes in a small group along Sydney Harbour depending on the tour chosen. There is a choice of five different bike tours around the city, and one of them allows you to ride through the harbour bridge.
4. Eat some corn
One of the best tasting corn on the cob is available at the Rocks. Expect to see many people eating corn of the cob, especially at around Sunday lunchtime to early Sunday afternoon.
5. Go to Sticky
If you love sweet and freshly made candy (that's right, freshly made on the premises) then Sticky is your go to destination. Flavours such as apple and watermelon candy with that authentic apple and watermelon taste are what you will come to love. Watch it made by hand and you will be given the opportunity to sample it before your very eyes.
6. The Rocks Market
Every weekend you are presented with an opportunity to check out quality arts, crafts and jewellery on sales. Watch the crowds as this market is rather popular. The foodies market is available on Friday. Good things do come in small packages.
This establishment does get mixed reviews. Some people think it is overrated, while others have had a really great time climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge that is Bridgeclimb. I most certainly did. A bit on the pricey end but this is a once in a lifetime fun-filled adrenalin experience to relish.
8. Sydney Observatory
A museum about astronomy with night viewings available. A Sydney Observatory iPhone app is also available if you want to go on a self guided science and history tour at your own pace. Telescope viewings are available.
The Rocks is also home to some occasional live jazz band performances and the annual coffee tasting festival.
