The new year in Sydney is set to be promising for a change when it comes to family friendly events. There are plenty of options to keep the kids entertained for the rest of these school holidays. Following on from the top kid friendly events in Sydney I brought you for December , below are the top picks for January to keep your kids inspired and entertained.

1. ImaginOcean @ The Sydney Opera House

ImaginOcean is set to be a treat, and will be held at the Sydney Opera House from the 3rd to the 27th of January. A glow in the dark, musical puppet show at its best, and fresh from the US. Your kids will be entertained with colour and joy. Tank, Dorsel and Bubbles are friends despite being fish, and they will take your children on a remarkable journey of discovery and fun. Lessons of friendship are learned with amazing music from a variety of different musical genres,

2. Micro Parks - Sydney Festival

The Sydney Festival also kicks off in January to see through a fantastic summer period until Australia Day, and although predominantly an adults based event, there is something in it for the kids too. Micro Parks is a free, family friendly event where artists transform some of Sydney's top parks into playful, artistic spaces. Refreshing entertainment for the young at heart will also be provided.

3. Flowers Forever

Part of the Eden Gardens Education Program, Flowers Forever is designed for mainly five to seven year olds. This is one kid friendly event in Sydney in the right season that teaches them about beautiful flowers. Kids who attend will be given the opportunity to make their own flower presses. Opportunities to create some pressed flower craft is available. The Eden Gardens is located in North Ryde. Further information can be found by clicking here .

Session times are as follows:

14 January 2013: 10am to 11:30am (5-7 year olds) and from 12:30pm to 2pm (8-12 year olds)
16 January 2013: 12:30pm to 2pm (8-12 year olds)
17 January 2013: 11:30am and 12:30pm to 2pm (5-7 year olds)

4. The Listies - Sydney Festival

Following on from the success of The Goons (with parental guidance), The Listies (Wiggles look alike) will be performing at Sydney's Hyde Park where gadgets, radio sketches and the world's first dad parade will be on show to only name a few. Sydney is a kid friendly (as well as a weird) city simultaneously. Further information can be found by clicking here .

5. Little Green Thumbs @ Eden Gardens

The same centre that brings you Flowers Forever in North Ryde also brings another kid friendly event to the Sydney calendar in kicking off 2013 in style. An introduction to gardening is enjoyed. Maybe an extra motivating treat to parents, and who knows you might just thank WeekendNotes Sydney for this suggestion. This is where Sydney's kids can have fun that doesn't involve chocolate or licking the cake beaters this summer. A chance for your kids to explore the fascinating world of gardens and plants with hands on activities including games, gardening activities and crafts. Suitable for kids from the ages of 3-5 and must have adult supervision. Entry is $12 per child.

Happy new year Sydney, and may 2013 be a good one.
