Melbourne, Australia, is known for its fascinating street art. From the colourful
graffiti to the thought-provoking
murals, there are plenty of street art sites you can explore in the city.
Melbourne is a city with a rich street art culture, and if you're looking for some of the best spots to check out, you're in luck! Here are my top four must-see street art sites, which I discovered while showing a dear friend around from overseas:
The first must see street art site in Melbourne is Hosier Lane

No tour of Melbourne's street art scene would be complete without a visit to Hosier Lane, a narrow alleyway located in the heart of the city. Its walls have become a canvas for some of the most creative and unique street art in the world. As graffiti art has become more accepted and appreciated, Hosier Lane has become a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. This spot is renowned for its vibrant murals and graffiti, and it's definitely worth a visit if you're in town.
The next must see art is in the Union Lane

Union Lane is another popular destination for street art lovers. It's a narrow alleyway that's covered with colorful murals and graffiti, making it a great spot for photos. Some of the most prominent pieces include a mural painted by street artist
Adnate, which features a portrait of an Aboriginal man, as well as a mural by Stormie Mills that pays homage to the history of Melbourne.
Next in list is the Fitzroy Street Art trail

Fitzroy is a suburb of Melbourne and it's home to some of the most impressive street art in the city. You'll find huge murals and other works of art on the walls of buildings and shops and the street art trail is constantly changing, with new pieces being added all the time, so make sure to bring your camera!
The fourth must see street art site in Melbourne is AC/DC Lane

If you're a fan of the legendary rock band, then you'll definitely want to check out AC/DC Lane. This spot is home to a series of murals and graffiti dedicated to the band so it's a great place to take some photos and show your love for rock and roll. There is many eye-catching artworks in this lane including the stickers window which can form a great backdrop for some selfies.
Few things to keep in mind while touring these lanes is to firstly respect the space. Street art is often an expression of culture and identity. Respect the space and don't damage or vandalize any of the art pieces.
Secondly, keep your distance. Street art is often delicate and can easily be damaged. Keep your distance from the art pieces and avoid touching them or getting too close.
And lastly, whilst enjoying these visual treats please be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings close to you. Different kinds of people visit these lanes and some interactions may not be pleasant so hang in tight but let loose your creative imaginations.
Street art is often considered an urban nuisance, but those of us who appreciate its beauty know that it can be the perfect way to brighten up any cityscape. No matter which of these four sites you choose to visit, you're sure to be impressed by the sheer variety and quality of Melbourne's street art. So grab your camera and get ready to explore the city's vibrant street art scene!
