Top 10 Spring School Holiday Events in Canberra 2022

If you are looking for fun things to do in Canberra these spring school holidays, then you are in luck - your calendar will be jam-packed full of exciting things to do! The first one on this list, Floriade, has free entry so you can visit again and again and see what's happening every day. When I visit with my daughter, we often find things we haven't seen before when we go back for a second or third time. There are also different roving performers that wander around each day for the kids, so keep your eyes peeled!

Whether your kids love flowers & rides or story time & crafts, there is something for everyone this spring. Keep reading for 10 events to check out these school holidays in Canberra...



1/ Floriade is of course the Number 1 thing to do for families these school holidays! Enjoy wandering around the spectacular floral beds, look out for roving performers, learn about bees, watch performances on the stage, eat from the delicious food trucks, shop around the stalls, enjoy the rides, take in the views from the Ferris Wheel, book in for a kid's workshop and see the displays by night at NightFest! 2/ Tulip Top Gardens is also a wonderful day out, if your kids love gardens and admiring all the different colours of spring. It is a different experience to Floriade, with a relaxed atmosphere as visitors wander around the colourful garden beds, under the shade of cherry blossoms in bloom. An entry fee applies. 3/ The National Arboretum will be having an array of activities, with Family Orienteering , Cultural Storytime , Nature Play Day , Children's Beginner Bonsai Workshop and Kite Making! 4/ Tuff Nutterz Obstacle Course will be running for the whole school holidays, located in the Parliamentary Triangle. Jump, climb and bounce your way over 30 obstacles. This event is guaranteed to tire the kids out for a good sleep! Tickets cost $32.74 per person and there are 4 session times throughout the day to choose from. See here for details.

5/ The National Portrait Gallery will be hosting their Portrait Play sessions, at a cost of $7 per child. Kids will enjoy doing craft activities that relate to different portraits in the gallery. See here for details and bookings. For a full article on the experience, see here .

6/ Woden Canberra Southern Cross Club will be presenting the show Snow White & The Seven Cool Dudes on Friday, 7th October. The show is an interactive, educational and fun performance for children aged 4-11 years. Enjoy some rapping by the "Cool Dudes"! Tickets cost $20 per person, plus booking fee. 7 The National Archives of Australia will be having two school holiday events to choose from. Firstly, there is a workshop to explore artworks included in the 2022 Waterhouse Natural Art Prize exhibition and then kids use different media to create their own works of art. The cost is $5 per child, see here for details. They will also be having a free Storytime with songs, stories and crafts. See here for details.

8/ The National Gallery of Australia will be hosting Art Steps by Saskia Haalebos, which is an activity space that is open each morning during the spring school holidays. Places are limited, so bookings are required. See here for details.

9/ The National Library of Australia will be having free Storytime sessions with creative activities. Bookings essential. See here for details.

10/ The Australian National Botanical Gardens will be having Secrets of the Australian Bush - A Family Adventure these school holidays. Hop on the Flora Explorer bus tour and learn more about the gardens. Tickets cost $8 adults and $5 children/ concession. See here for details.

Also don't forget to see what's on in your own neighbourhood, with a range of local events also happening around the city (such as the Googong Rural Fire Service Open Day and events at your local ACT Library ). There is PLENTY of things to do these school holidays, so book your tickets, make some plans and enjoy springtime in Canberra!
