As a student I tend to eat a fair bit of junk food but every now and then my stomach craves a healthy meal. So I've compiled a list of places that serve food that is not only good for you but also delights the taste buds.

Sumo Salad

The chain has become quite popular lately and especially if you're walking on George Street it's kinda hard to miss it.

They have six ready made salads you can choose from and then there is a large list of other salads you can pick off the menu.

The menu options include salads with salmon (great for the heart), a dish called summer prawns, grilled chicken, and mushroom salad.

My favourite happens to be Pete Evan's super falafel and vegie Salad which is a new addition to their menu. It's a yummy Mediterranean salad full of super foods and antioxidants.

The salads are light and delicious but sometimes can leave you feeling hungry again.

Boost Juice

These little juice bars are everywhere. They serve healthy fresh fruit juices and have some great juice fusions. Most Australians are in love with this franchise and will hunt it down if they have too.

I recently tried their Grape Escape smoothie and it's to die for. It's made of green grapes, spinach, pineapple, banana and coconut water. I know it sounds like a strange combination but it produces a great flavour.

If you aren't in the mood to take a risk you can also go with Berry Light or a Mini Me Mango, both of which are awesome summery drinks.

Many juice bars just don't have the right mixture of drinks and have odd ingredients which can often spoil the drink (trust me I've been to many such places in Sydney) which is why I feel Boost Juice is a great place to enjoy a healthy drink and is a great option when you want to take a break from junk meals.

Twisted Frozen Yoghurt and Smoothies

Twisted Yoghurt is a place I tried out recently and found it absolutely refreshing. It's a yoghurt shop that takes yoghurt serving to the next level.

It presents familiar yoghurt dishes in a new way making them interesting and stylish. I tried one of their Llittle Hotties, which is a dish that combines soft creamy white yoghurt with warm homemade apple crumble. It was insanely good.

Another option on the menu that caught my eye was white yoghurt served with date pudding and butterscotch sauce.

If you are ever at Bondi Beach, sunbathing away, try to get a yogurt delight from here. You won't be disappointed.

Sushi Train

As you all know by now, I spend a fair amount of time at Oxford Street. This is where I've discovered Sushi Train.

We've all been told over and over how good sushi is and the numerous benefits it has thus making it the perfect student lunch. My favourite items at Sushi Train are crab sticks, tiger Roll, fresh tuna salmon roll and sushi train roll.

These rolls are usually tiny and are packed with ingredients that are great for you.

Great place to experiment with if you're trying to lose weight and are spending your time calorie counting. It also has numerous branches all over Sydney.

Iku

What a surprise this place was. I never knew eating well could taste so good. Every bite here made me feel healthier, I know that's impossible but I definitely felt the goodness from the moment I started eating.

The décor is super inviting and the colours are warm and fun. I loved everything about their restaurant and its one of my personal favourites now.

They also have great gluten free options, which is a big plus. I tried the casserole, served with brown nice and vegetables. It had a lovely flavour to it and was priced at $9 which wasn't bad at all.

I also tried the Miso soup which was quite nice and cost $6. If these dishes are a bit different than what you are used too they also have lasagnes, curries and salads. The lasagne is a big hit and is served with salad on the side.

I think if you're in the mood for something different then this is a good place to try out, and if you're looking for healthy you've come to the right place.

Subway

Subway is usually the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of healthy food and something quick to munch on.

I'm kinda craving Subway writing this blog and it's conveniently located branches all over the city definitely make it easier to grab something on the way home.

I love Subway, especially their chicken teriyaki sub, but I just recently read a blog about the amount of sugar the teriyaki sub contains due to the sauce used and how unhealthy it is for you so for that reason I'll give my vote to the normal veggie or turkey sub, which I'm sure won't do you any harm.

So guys these were my six picks for healthy food cravings.

I'm sure we can all eat better and be better to our bodies, the bodies that enable us to do amazing things and live out our dreams. So, maybe every once in a while we can give these places a try. If you discover any more restaurants with great organic or healthy food options please do let me know.
