Rice meals are practical but fulfilling - they are fast to serve at restaurants yet make our tummies easily full at the same time. It's a satisfying experience. The good thing is, Melbourne has many places that provide rice with yummy cuisines. Be it fried chicken to BBQ pork, these dishes are fit for those who are in a rush and in need for energy-filling food. Here are my top choices for decent rice dishes around inner Melbourne (and a glimpse of my favourite meals from each which are mainly chicken).

1. Rice Bar (121 Grattan St)
Rice Bar serves really quickly, probably due to the fact that it is located around Melbourne Uni and many students go here to eat, including myself. I'd definitely recommend the salted chicken egg yolk with rice. It's delicious; I love the crunchiness of the chicken, along with the saltiness of the yolk. Combined with fresh veggies, the meal is perfect to satisfy your growling tummy.

2. Red Silks (Level 1, 200 Bourke St)
Red Silks has a lot of food choices you might get torn up between two or several dishes. However, I recommend its sweet chicken and corn with rice. This meal has a kind of "comforting" feel because of its soft texture. Nevertheless, it's delicious (at some point, it tastes like corn soup) and rewarding as in the end you will feel completely sated. It's also healthy; chicken, corn, egg, and more exquisitely mixed into one clever dish. Another plus point: the interior is very interesting; its wall menu looks the best.

3. Dessert House Eatery (313 Swanston St)
This place is always full, especially at nights. Since it's very close to Melbourne Central, you can eat here before you watch a movie at Hoyts. That's what I often do. The lemongrass chicken with rice is really nice; well-cooked chicken with flavours of lemongrass that makes the dish' taste exciting. The portion is also satisfying.

4. Pacific Seafood BBQ House (213 Lonsdale St)
Up until now, I still haven't found another place that beats Pacific's mixed grill roast duck and crispy pork. Yep, you can choose two from duck, pork, and also chicken. In result, you have 2 different kinds of meat, accompanied with some vegetables. The mixture of these ensures that your eating experience will be anything but boring. I may have to warn you about the unfriendly service, though.

5. China Style (743 Swanston St)
Another restaurant close to uni, I always see students coming here for lunch (even one of the lecturers). The salty and spicy chicken ribs dish and crispy chicken are worth to try.
