my suggestion - choose to live where everything you want is within walking distance - I live next to the CBD - walk to trains, shopping with a trolley, restaurants, parks, entertainment - no need for a car - I'm fit, healthy and happy and probably save $5-7k a year on new car expenses (I have an old one I drive twice a week).
if you live in the 'burbs where buying milk involves a trip in a car - chances are walking is something that drops off your to-do list - until it's too late and you may be obese and/or diabetic, etc.
