Local fun For kids & parents
As a parent, getting out of the house can make for a tiresome effort. However, sometimes getting out of the house and meeting new parents, in a space that lets kids roam free and play, is much needed. Playgroups offer this great opportunity to kids and parents alike, and luckily for parents in the Frankston and surrounding area, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to playgroups. With a three-year-old in tow, we've ventured to lots of playgroups, and these are our favourite playgroups in the Frankston area.
A playgroup with a twist, this Frankston-North based playgroup is a must for those with mini Jamie Olivers', or for parents looking to help their children eat nutritious and delicious food in a fun and child-friendly environment. From 10am – 12pm every Wednesday, the Frankston North Community Centre is turned into a hub of children's activities (aimed for ages 0-5), and also includes children getting hands-on in the creation of their own healthy lunches, which they sit and eat together. It's a great little playgroup with real hands-on learning through fun, and great for families looking for a playgroup that's a little different from the norm.
Playgroup at the Lyrebird Community Centre in Carrum Downs comes in two different structures, meaning there's something for every family here. On Thursdays, families can enjoy a structured approach to playgroup, with the session starting at 9.30 and finishing at 11am, with a set layout of structured activities and toys available for children to interact and engage with. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, a 'roving playgroup' is available, allowing you to come in any time between 9.30am and 12.30pm, and staying for your one-and-a-half-hour time slot. This is a more relaxed version of playgroup, and many hands-on activities and toys are available for children, but it is less structured and more free-roaming. Cost: $5 per child, per session (term pricing also available) Website: www.lyrebird.org.au/activities/playgroup/
Langy Tots, at the Langwarrin Community Centre, is another great structured playgroup for those in the local area. Going for two hours ever Friday from 9.30am, this playgroup has toddlers more in mind through their structured learning and play activities while giving parents a chance to step back and watch their kids interact and enjoy playing with others. Bookings are essential for this playgroup, and numbers fill up quickly, so booking before the term starts is recommended.
We really are spoilt for choice with options for playgroups in the Frankston area and surrounds, but the key to finding a great playgroup is simply finding one that suits you and your child. With so many great options, the perfect playgroup for your family is right around the corner.
