Ten of the best places to eat in Perth’s City of Cockburn
Having lived in the City of Cockburn for a number of years, it's safe to say I have had my fair share of dinners out and about around the area. Cockburn has a wonderful array of cafes and eateries, from international cuisine to good old-fashioned pub grub. Here are ten of the best in this southern Perth coastal city.
An old favourite of mine, Café Nocello is usually packed to the rafters and it's not hard to see why, with a winning combination of great Italian food and outstanding service. The menu rarely changes, which could be a turnoff for some people, but clearly it's keeping people coming back. You'll find delicious woodfired pizzas, parmigianas, pork belly, and my personal favourite, the beef cheeks, plus a range of entrees and desserts.
Another of my favourites due to the great food and massive games room - always a bonus when you have a restless toddler. My husband loves the chilli mussels, while my favourite dish is the chicken caeser salad. The menu is fairly extensive, and incudes steaks, pizzas, seafood, starters and so much more. The Last Drop brews a range of beers onsite and has a huge cocktail list.
Majestic India Address: Unit 3/19 Linkage Boulevard, Cockburn Central Phone: 9414 9991 Website: www.majesticindia.com.au
In my opinion, this is hands-down the best Indian food in Cockburn. I've never tasted a chicken tikka masala as good, and the only downside to this place is that it's ruined any other Indian food for me as nothing tastes as good. My husband is a big fan of the signature dish, the Afghani Raan, while we can never go past the tandoori wings to start. You can check out the full menu here.
A relative newcomer to Cockburn, Noot's Thai is a small takeaway shop located in the Cockburn Central complex (near the train station) which produces some of the best Thai food I've had (outside of Thailand, of course!) The Thai green curry is as authentic as it comes, while the Pad Thai or red curry are always a winner with my husband, who is very fussy about his Thai food.
This authentic Malaysian cafe has come to Cockburn. Serving an array of Malay and Chinese inspired cuisine including the signature curry laksa and Pappa chicken rice with steamed chicken, it's just like being back in Malaysia. There's also a huge number of traditional drink choices of offer on the menu.

The Iris Bar and Restaurant Address: Dean Road, Jandakot Phone: 9414 7632 Website: www.theirisbarandrestaurant.com
With views overlooking the Glen Iris Golf Course, great food and an extensive beverage menu, The Iris is one of Cockburn's hidden gems. The menu changes frequently, and includes international choices, seafood, steaks and starters, plus a dessert menu and a huge range of beverages.
Craving some real Korean fried chicken? Forget that big chain store down the road, Nene Chicken is the place to go and serves authentic fried chicken flavours that include black sesame, bulgogi, a sweet and spicy recipe and freaking hot. Check out the full menu here.
It's no surprise why this place always has a line out the front on a Sunday, with the people of Cockburn clearly appreciative of a good dim sum lunch with authentic Cantonese cuisine that includes seafood, venison and duck.
The Quarie Bar and Brasserie Address: 2 Macquarie Boulevard, Hammond Park Phone: 9414 3500 Website: www.thequarie.com.au
The Quarie is the type of pub that has something for couples, mates and families – from $5 coffee and cake in the morning, to lunch, dinner and drinks specials most days of the week. On Tuesdays they run a craft session for kids – perfect for keeping the little ones entertained while you eat – while you can enjoy $15 jugs during AFL games. I can never go past the pork belly or the barramundi, and as an added bonus, they even tell you which wine or beer pairs best with each menu item. How thoughtful.
The Gate Bar and Bistro Address: 816 Beeliar Drive, Success Phone: 9499 3399 Website: www.thegatebarandbistro.com.au
What I like about The Gate is that they tend to shake up their menu on a regular basis, so there's always something new to try. Along with Aussie favourites, you'll also find a few international flavours, plus seafood, steaks and burgers plus a great kids menu.
