Top Places in Perth to Keep the Kids Cool

Perth is well known for its glorious weather and as the sunshine season begins, it can often be a headache trying to think of ways to keep cool especially if you've got kids in tow during the holidays. Here are some ideas of places to keep you all a bit cooler and less frazzled this Summer.
1. Water playgrounds
There are an abundance of free and cheap to use water parks within the surrounds of Perth. My favourite free water park is the Rainbow Community Park at Ellenbrook. This park has so much to offer young families, and as long as you come along dressed to get drenched you'll have lots of fun. There are lots of shade sails to shield you from the suns rays and space for many families to spread out and enjoy this community offering.

2. Your Local Pool
Local pools are a cheap option to get inside out of the sun and cool off. A couple of notable aquatic centre have also included an outside water playground (shaded) too e.g.
Wanneroo Aquamotion and
Craigie Aquatic Centre . Check out what your local pool has to offer.
3. Shaded parks
Parks are a great place to take your family to cool off, but unless they're in shade, play equipment is often too hot for kids to enjoy. Instead, head to a park fully equipped with shade sails to provide your family with some a cool area to play in. Top choices for shaded play grounds include
Whiteman Park Playground ; one of the biggest shaded parks for kids of all ages in addition to Hillarys Boat Harbour playground which is fully shaded and close to the water for a cooling dip. Additionally, for toddlers Subiaco's
Mueller Park has some great shading provided by the trees with the slides always under cover.
4. McDonalds
Okay, perhaps not your first thought on a sunny day. But don't knock it when for just 30c for an ice cream cone, you can treat your family to an icy treat and some free air conditioning. Many of the McDonalds outlets have play frames for kids too, so this can make a nice sojourn out of the sun if your kids are feeling the heat.
5. Museums
When the weather outside is stinking hot and the kids are complaining of being bored stuck inside, head to one of Perth's great museums. Not only are many of WA's museums free, they almost always have air conditioning in endless supplies. Check out what exhibits are on at your favourite museum and you could plan a trip once a week. This idea also means you can provide a little bit of educational stimulation during the school free period.
6. Cinema
A relatively cheap outing (particularly if you've got a loyalty card); a trip to the cinema offers a plenitude of air conditioning as well as a couple of hours entertainment for the family. The school holiday season brings with it some great new releases for children. Disney's cartoon offering for the holiday season is called
Wreck it Ralph and looks set to provide fun for adults and kids alike.
7. Bowling
Look out for coupons during the school break for budget friendly ten pin bowling sessions for the whole family. Indoors, out of the sun and with some air conditioning to boot - this is something the whole family can enjoy.
8. Paddling pool
When the sun is shining, there is nothing that kids love more than having a splash in some water. If the sun's zapped you of all your energy to set off out for some fun, then grab the paddling pool or your slip n' slide and have some back yard fun. Life can be pretty easy when the sun's shining.
9. Indoor play centre
Not just suited for rainy day activities; consider burning off your kids' energy in WA's host of indoor play centres. Heavenly air conditioning, and enough activities to provide hours of fun for your kids. Check out Weekend Notes
guide to indoor play.
10. Play date at a friends house with air con
Lastly, and a cheeky idea at that, if you've got a friend with an air conditioned house or a pool, see if you can take the kids over for a play date. Bring along a picnic for lunch and take the stress out of keeping your kids cool. Note: It might be poor etiquette to show up every day of the school holidays.
