Desserts at Mirka
1. Mirka at Tolarno Hotel
Deliciously rich and devilishly decadent, forget dinner and get straight onto desserts! Mirka Bar is a cosy and intimate venue where you'll be able to match that perfect dessert with a coffee or cognac - your choice. 42 Fitzroy St, St Kilda. Open Tuesday to Friday12pm-late; Saturday 4pm-late; and Sunday 11am-5pm.

2. Houpeton Tea Rooms
If you can bear standing in seemingly never-ending queues, Houpeton Tea Rooms will impress everyone from friends visiting from overseas to your mother-in-law! Hint: if you have more than one person in your party, take in turns to wait in line while the other browses through the mulitude of shops inside the arcade, or go early morning. Shop 1 and 2, 282 Collins St, Melbourne. Open Monday to Saturday 8am-5pm; Sunday 9am-5pm.

3. Vons
Be serenaded by live musicians while enjoying alfresco style dining or just desserts. My recommendation, sticky date pudding at Vons; moist, warm, rich, served with generous helping of creamy vanilla ice-cream. 78 Hardware Lane. Open Monday to Friday noon-3pm and 5pm-11pm; Saturday and Sunday 5pm-11pm. Monday and Sunday Italian vocalist. Tuesday - Saturday contemporary jazz.

4. Fitz Cafe
What's better than a Mars bar? A Mars bar mud cake! A superb mix of melted Mars bars and plenty of dark chocolate, in a rich mud cake, makes this dessert a chocoholics heaven. Don't count the calories with this one! The Fitz Cafe is located at 347 Brunswick St, Fitzroy. Open daily 7am-11pm.

5. Vegie Bar
Catering to vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets, Vegie Bar hits the mark with dinner and dessert. A display cabinet has changing dessert items including a mouth-watering chocolate cake and a raw cheesecake. Servings are large enough for two to share. 380 Brunswick St, Fitzroy. Open Monday-Friday 11am-10pm (Friday 10.30pm); Saturday to Sunday 9am 10pm (Sat 10.30pm).

Hopetoun tea rooms are amazing, but not all of their products are fresh. I've had cheesecake thay was still frozen in the middle.

I would like to take an interstate guest for a really great Devonshire Tea serving generous home made scones with jam and real cream.
I know the best places are in the Dandenongs but we don't have the time to get out there. Any suggestions for somewhere closer to town, preferably south of the Yarra.
