In our Melbourne share house, we've been ordering a lot of pizza since the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic began. At least once a week, since March, we've been trying all the local pizza joints in town. We're also big fans of One Bite on YouTube with Davey Pageviews - a US guy who's been reviewing pizzas since 2017. Wood-fire and fresh ingredient are the two essentials of a great pizza!

Here's a list of our top 5 in the local Richmond 3121 area:

1. Piccolo - The Grand
Hands down the best pizza in town and I have fond memories of sipping Negronis in the sunny courtyard on a Sunday evening. Prices are between $20- $25 each, these pizzas come in one decent size of 8 slices. They look amazing when you open the box, not greasy at all, and the crust is the perfect combination of crunch and soft fluffiness. The toppings are super fresh and tasty. We really can't pick between the traditional Margherita and Pecato Tropicale!

Available for delivery on Doordash, Deliveroo, MenuLog & UberEats. Check out the full menu and order here.

2. Ganzo
These guys come in at very close second with their authentic Italian style pizza - we really can't fault them! Like Piccolo pizzas, the dough is always perfect, and the toppings are fresh and full of flavour. Prices range from $19 to $24 and we love the Capricciosa with artichoke or Napoletana with anchovies for something a bit surprising and delightful!

These guys are relatively new to the area, having only opened just before the pandemic but we're sure going to order as many pizzas as we can to keep them open!

Available for delivery through Uber Eats. View the menu and order here.

3. Fratellino Pizzeria
Fratellino in South Yarra is an institution and we would hop in the car for the 15-minute drive just to grab one of their pizzas (they didn't deliver), so when we heard they were opening another restaurant in Richmond, we were super excited!

The Hawksburn pizza is definitely our house favourite with its fresh ham, hot salami, mushrooms, capsicum, olives, onion, pineapple & oregano goodness. Pizzas come in small, medium and large (although we only ever order large!) and are well priced between $12 - $20 each.

Available for Delivery on Uber Eats. See their menu and order here.

4. St Domenico Restaurant
These Napoletana style pizzas are up there among the best with fresh toppings and a good 12-inch size. Priced between $19 - $24, we enjoy their Salami or Prosciutto pizzas the most. These guys have been around for a while, about 15 years according to the website, and provide consistently tasty pizzas. They also do yummy pasta dishes.

Available for delivery on DoorDash and Uber Eats. Order online here.

5. The Posty
Don't get me wrong, they're still pretty amazing, but before we discovered Piccolo Grand and before Ganzo and Fratellinos came to town - Posty was our favourite pizzeria.

Priced between $18 - $23, they come in one size and are an example of a pub that is focussed on doing one thing really well (they don't offer any other food!) I personally like the mushroom pizza with truffle pecorino and their signature pizza, The Posty, is always a crowd-pleaser.

PLEASE NOTE: The Posty is currently closed but will be back once Stage 4 restrictions are over. Check out the menu here.
