Are You a Treasure Seeker?
Do you love finding the unexpected at a bargain price?
Do you sometimes wonder if you might have pirates or prospectors in your family tree (hopefully no grave robbers), so keen is your desire to find a treasure?
It might be sterling silver jewellery that looks tarnished but you know it will clean up beautifully and shine like new, or a top label, pure wool jacket that just needs dry cleaning, a shirt for a couple of dollars in your favourite colours or a piece of timber furniture that's perfect for painting in your favourite colour of chalk paint. Or it might be any number of preloved items you fall in love with the moment you spy them.

For those addicted to Op Shopping, Murwillumbah will not disappoint. There are four charity shops in the town and one at the Tweed Council's Tip Shop, now run in partnership with St Vincent de Paul.

The Salvos relocated to a larger showroom on Main Street about a year ago and now has ample room to display a large range of clothing, home wares, books, bric-a-brac, and furniture. Deliveries of good quality used furniture to the store occur Mondays and Thursdays about midday and desirable items are snapped up very quickly.

They also carry a range of new mattresses at affordable prices. Home delivery can be arranged for a reasonable price. They are open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm.

Vinnies Murwillumbah , 138 Main Street, carries clothing, shoes, linen, collectables and a small range of home wares and knick knacks.

Clothing is attractively displayed and prices are reasonable. They open Monday to Friday 9.30am-4pm and Saturday 9.30am to 12pm.

Tweed Palliative Support Op Shop in Queen Street operates from several shop fronts with furniture in the first two and the third displaying clothing, books, a large range of household items including electrical appliances and bric-a-brac.

Tweed Palliative Care Op Shop is open Monday - Friday 8.30am to 3.30pm and Saturday 8.30am to 12 noon. Most items of clothing cost fifty cents and this is a great place to find a bargain.

Uniting Church Red Dove Op Shop is located in a hall behind the Uniting church at 2 Byangum Rd and operates Tuesdays, 9am to noon and Thursdays, 9am to 3pm.

As well as selling a range of preloved clothes and other donated items at a reasonable price they also have jam, chutney, pickles and other homemade delights for sale. I can personally vouch for the pickled cucumbers.

Vinnies Buy Back Shop, Leddays Creek Rd, Stotts Creek (off Tweed Valley Way) is the old Tip Shop.

They are open Tuesday to Friday 8.30am-3pm and Saturday 9am-3pm. They sell reclaimed building materials and tools, furniture, household goods, electrical items and more.

Luckily for the determined treasure seeker, Murwillumbah also offers wonderful cafes where you can stop, catch your breath and refresh before continuing your search. Happy treasure hunting.
