Get some great plant buys in spring
Now that it is almost springtime, Melbourne will be having quite a few plant sales and plant fairs. It will be a few months where there are countless of these events on as the weather warms up after a cold winter. This is the time when plants, which have been dormant during winter, will start to grow again.

This list gives you some of these plant events around Melbourne

1. Australian Native Plant Sale
When: Saturday 1st September, from 9 am to 3 pm
Where: Wilson Botanic Park, 668 Princes Highway, Berwick.
Cost: Free
Details: The Native Plant Sale is a market type event inside the park with specialist native plant stalls. The 'Friends of Wilson Park' will put on a sausage sizzle with tea and coffee. There will be a cut flower display as well as the Quilters Group from The Royal Botanic Garden, Cranbourne. Click here for their website.

2. Plant Sale
When: 1st September, from 10 am to 4 pm
Where: 92 Lord Street, Melbourne
Details: Plant sale on the first day of spring with Personal Plant Buyer. Held at Richmond Community Learning Centre. Click here for their website.

3. Plant Sale Day
When: 2nd September, 10 am to 12 noon
Where: 176 South Para Road, Kersbrook
Cost: Plants $1 to $3
Details: Well over 260 species of local plants are usually available. Plants are all tube stock with the exception of cutting grown plants grown in small round pots. Click here for their website.

4. Giant Plant Sale
When: 8th September, from 8.30 am to 3 pm
Where: Charlesworth Reserve, cnr Mullens and Livingstone Rds, South Vermont
Cost: Free entry

5. Friends' Plant Sales at the Royal Botanic Gardens
Where: Gate Lodge, 100 Birdwood Avenue - enter via Gate E
When: 7th September, from 8 am to 1 pm
Details: The Growing Friends' Nursery will be open for Plant Sales to Friends on the first Friday of each month. Click here for their website.

6. Spring Show - Combined Show with the Camellia Society
When: 8th September 2018
Where: The Ferny Creek Horticultural Society, Ferny Creek Ornamental Gardens Reserve, Sassafras
Cost: $5
Details: Flower displays, officially judged exhibits, photographic displays, informative guided garden walks, plant sales, including rarer plants & cut flowers, crafts, refreshments, light lunches and a sausage sizzle. Click here for their website.

7. Australian Plant Expo
When: 8th & 9th September, 2018, from 10 am to 4 pm
Where: Eltham Community & Reception Centre, 801 Main Road.
Cost: $4 - $5
Details: The expo is a huge native plant & book fair, with lots of displays including native bonsai, gift ideas, talks by Phillip Johnson, AB Bishop & Loretta Childs, other demonstrations and workshops. There are activities for children. Click here for their website.

8. Grampians Flora - Plant Hunting Expedition
When: 7th September, 7.45 pm to 10 pm
Where: Australian Plants Society, 54 Raleigh Road, Maribyrnong
Cost: Free
Details: Join two horticulturalists on a plant hunting expedition to the Grampians. They will talk about the wildflowers and plants they found last year and how they will use them in the Botanical gardens. Click here for their website.

9. Friends of Tindale Garden Monthly Plant Sales
When: 8th September, 10 am to 12 noon
Where: 33 Sherbrooke Road, Sherbrooke
Cost: Free entry
Details: Sales will focus on seasonal plants, propagated from their collection & donated from the Friends' gardens. Click here for their website.

10. Indoor Plant Warehouse Sale - Springtime Splendour
When: 8th September, from 9 am to 4 pm
Where: 19 Studley Street, Abbotsford

11. Indigenous Plant Talk and Nursery Tour
When: 15th September, from 10 am to 11 am
Where: Newport Lakes Native Nursery, 2 Lakes Drive
Cost: Free
Details: A tour of Newport Lakes Native Nursery to learn about the flora of Melbourne's Western Basalt Plains and the benefits of using Indigenous plants. Meet at Newport Lakes Native Nursery. Click here to register.

12. Yea Garden Expo
When: 22nd & 23rd September, from 10 am to 4 pm
Where: Yea Saleyards, 1 Flat Lead Rd, Yea
Cost: $5

13. Grampians Wildflower Show
When: 29th & 30th September, from 9.30 am to 4 pm
Where: Halls Gap Visitors Centre, 117-119 Grampians Rd.
Cost: $2
Details: This show is to celebrate the wonderful flowers of the Grampians Gariwerd National Park and nearby forests. Visitors can see flowers in their natural setting as well as a great display of named flowers in the Visitor Information Centre with experts available to help identify flowers. 14. Native Orchid Show
When: 29th & 30th September, from 9 am to 4 pm
Where: 47 Miller Crescent, Mt Waverley

15. Pomonal Native Flower Show & Sale
When: 6th to 7th October
Where: Ararat Halls, Gap Road, Pomonal
Details: There will also be thousands of native plants for sale, as well as botany, gardening and natural history books available. Click here for their website.

16. Garden Lovers Fair
When: 6th to 7th October, from 10 am to 4 pm
Where: 370 Mount Macedon Road, Macedon

17. Spring Celebration Day
When: 6th October, 10 am to 3 pm
Where: 1210 Melba Hway, Yarra Glen

18. Gippsland Garden and Home Expo
When: 13th to 14th October, 9 am to 6 pm
Where: Lardner Park, via Warragul
Cost: $10

19. Mt Beenak Orchids Annual Open Day
When: 20th October, from 9 am to 4 pm
Where: First visit the YVOS Spring Show at Seville, then 27 Hackett Creek Rd, Three Bridges

20. Growing Friends Spring Plant Sale
When: 27th - 28th October, from 10 am to 4 pm
Where: 1000 Ballarto Road, Cranbourne
Cost: $5
