Where will you be watching the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, 7th November? Many Canberrans will be heading straight to the track, with a day of local racing at the TAB Melbourne Cup Race Day at Thoroughbred Park, with the Melbourne Cup shown on the big screen at 3pm. Buy your ticket at the gate for $25, or online through Ticketek and enjoy all the live racing, excitement - and of course the Fashions on the Field - at this exciting yearly event.
If you are looking for something closer to home, or perhaps at your favourite local bar, café or club, then also check out these 12 Melbourne Cup events below. They are a great excuse to glam up, dig out your best hat or cravat and watch all the action on the big screen with a champers in hand. If you gamble, most venues will have a sweep so you have a horse to cheer on - and you may even return home with more cash than you left with. 1/ Courtyard by Milkcrate is a popular café restaurant located in the city, which has a big day planned for this years Melbourne Cup. Watch the race live on the big screen, join the sweep, enjoy live music and savour a delicious 3 course meal for $80. 2/ EQ Café and Lounge in Deakin will be hosting a Melbourne Cup event with live racing on the big screen, best dressed prizes, sweepstakes, a DJ from 3pm and a Lunch and Dessert Buffet for $49. The buffet lunch includes a range of premium roast meats and seafood, a selection of gourmet salads and a dessert bar filled with sweet treats made in-house at the EQ Bakehouse. If you would like to add in a 4 hour drinks package (which includes sparkling, moscato, all tap beers and ciders and a range of white and red wines) it will cost $85 for both the buffet and drinks package. 3/ Hotel Realm in Barton will have two Melbourne Cup celebrations to choose from, in its stylish 5 Star precinct. Ostani Bar will be hosting a party with live music, entertainment, 3 hour silver drinks package, Johnny Walker Bar, BBQ stations and more for $99 per person. Buvette Bistro and Wine Bar will be hosting an even more decadent Melbourne Cup event, for $165 per person. Both have after-parties to keep the celebrations going into the evening. 4/ Pialligo Estate will be teaming up with Westfield Woden for a Melbourne Cup event in the Glasshouse. Enjoy canapés and champagne on arrival, a 2 course grazing menu, a 3 hour drinks package, Fashions on the Field, sweeps and entertainment on the Westfield Woden Catwalk. The price is $150 per person. 5/ Hyatt Hotel Canberra has two decadent choices this Melbourne Cup Day. Choose between an Afternoon Tea Buffet in the Tea Lounge for $78 or "The Garden Celebration" with live entertainment, outdoor TV screen, lunch buffet with seafood and a 3 hour premium drinks package for $199 per person. 9/ Canberra Southern Cross Club has Melbourne Cup events planned for their clubs at Woden, Tuggeranong and at the Yacht Club at Yarralumla. The Corinna Cup Lunch at Woden is particularly popular, with a 3 course lunch and drinks package, live entertainment, prizes, TAB facilities and live racing on the big screen, for $56 per person. 11/ Gungahlin Lakes Club, north of the city, will be holding a Melbourne Cup Luncheon with a 3 course lunch, champagne on arrival, live music, best dressed competitions, sweeps and much more.
