Top 4 Melbourne Cup Carnival Events
The Melbourne Cup, the race that stops the nation is only part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Around $10million in prize money is on offer across the four day carnival which attracts fine horses from across the world but in true carnival style this week of high stakes horse racing has even more to offer.

The Myer Fashions on the Field competition draws almost as much public attention as the races themselves but along with the finery there is also fashion silliness. Who can guess what outrageous costumes we will see this year?
Add in fine dining, friendship, and a flutter on the gee-gees and this entertainment fiesta takes its rightful place as one of Melbourne's premier events.

The Myer Fashions on the Field competition begins on Derby Day. The first competition in 1962 was established to attract women to the races and what a success it has been. It was on the now infamous Derby Day in 1965 when fashion model and actress Jean Shrimpton made headlines around the world for wearing a miniskirt.

Emirates Melbourne Cup Day - Tuesday 3rd November 2015 The Melbourne Cup, first run in Flemington in 1861, attracts some of the world's finest horses and it is no wonder with $6.2million dollars in prize money on offer. The trophy cup, made by Hardy Brothers from 34 pieces of 18ct gold metal hand beaten for over 200 hours, is this year valued at $175,000. More than 100,000 people come to The Melbourne Cup each year.

The Melbourne Cup is raced over 3200 metres. The current race record of 3.16:30, set in 1993, is held by Kingston Rule. Only five horses have won the Melbourne Cup more than once, with Macybe Diva the only one to have won it three times. The late, great trainer Bart Cummins, holds the record with 12 Cup wins.

Crown Oaks Day - Thursday 5th November 2015
Oaks Day or Ladies Day is anticipated year round. If you have never been now is your chance to find out why some ladies simply won't miss it.
Fashions on the Field attracts almost as much interest as the races. Everywhere you look ladies will be dressed in their finery. In recent years hats have given way to fascinators and the designs can be as outrageous as they are varied. The Victoria State winner of the National Women's Racewear competition is judged on Crown Oaks Day.
