Autumn Discovery Tours are running daily (except on Mondays) at the Royal Botanic Gardens during May. Guided walks run twice daily at 11am - 12:30 and 2pm - 3:30pm. Walks are free, to book call 0392522429 or click here for more details. Also at the Royal Botanic Gardens is the 'Growing Friends' plant sale on the 3rd and 4th of May. Dandenong Ranges Open Studios. For one weekend only out of the entire year you have the opportunity to visit 30 open studios in the Dandenong Ranges on the 3rd and 4th of May. Go behind the scenes of some of the regions finest designers, sculptors, painters and makers to see things that are usually off limits to the general public. Visit Open Gardens on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of May visit 'Timandra' garden at Narrawong and on the weekend of the 10th and 11th visit 'Albertine' at Gisborne South and 'Avalon' also at Gisborne South.

Better Homes and Gardens will be live from the Melbourne showgrounds from the 2nd - 4th of May. Watch the team work in live demonstrations and workshops to bring you the latest in designs and fashion for your homes. Look at the latest products and gain advice and tips from the 250 exhibitors. Red Hill Community Market is on May the 3rd and is the last market until September 6th. The market stops over the cooler months as conditions can vary greatly. The market has over 300 stallholders offering everything you would expect from a quality organisation. Parking is $4 and no dogs are allowed. To find out more click here .



Seaswell Charity Walk is on the 4th of May starting at the Cape Schanck lighthouse on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Choose between the 10km walk which starts at Rye back beach and finishes in Blairgowrie or the 20km option that starts at the lighthouse and finishes at Blairgowrie. The aim of the walk is to raise awareness and funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation . For more information or to register click here .

Field of Woman at the G needs 15,000 women to don pink ponchos and create a massive Pink Lady on the MCG to create awareness and funds for breast cancer. Currently 3,000 spots are taken and that means 12,000 remain. To get your spot click here . Tickets cost $55 and includes a poncho, backpack and entry to the Melbourne V's Western Bulldogs. The event is on the 10th of May at 4:30pm before the game.



Mornington Racecourse Market is on the second Sunday of the month, which also coincides with Mother's Day this year on the 11th of May. Expect much the same as the Red Hill Market with a few variations in stallholders. The flowers here are great for Mother's day and very reasonably priced with lillies being under $10 a bunch. Great Ocean Road Marathon is an event not to be missed. Choose between 5 distances, including the 45km marathon ( which is actually 3 km more than a standard marathon), 23km half marathon ( 2km longer), 14km run, 14km wheelchair event, 6km run and the 1.5km kids gallop. The shorter events are held on Saturday the 17th of May with the half and the full marathon being on Sunday 18th. Entry is $115 for the longer events and $45 for the shorter events. RSPCA Million Paws Walk is on Sunday 18th of May. Help stop to cruelty to animals by participating in this annual national event. Entry is $15 adults, $8 children and concession and $25 for a family. Australian Gymnastics Championships will be taking place at the Hisense arena from Wednesday the 21st of May to Sunday the 1st of June. Competitors will be competing for selection for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, so why not get along and support these outstanding athletes. Tickets are priced from $18.50 and under 5's are free. Melbourne City Mission Sleep at the G is on Thursday 22nd of May. This is our chance to make a difference for the 22,000 Victorians sleeping rough each night. This event raises awareness and funds for people doing it tough. Last years event raised over $300,000 with this years aiming at $500,000. 2014 Whittlesea Challenge is a fully supported recreational bike ride organised by Cycling Victoria. Choose between the 110km or 68km course which covers undulating terrain and includes spectacular views over Kinglake National Park. This ride is for all cyclists, you don't need to be Cadel Evans, it's not a race . Entry cost $90 for non members which also includes 12 months registration and $70 for members. Bumble Bee Children's Markets are a great place to pick up some pre loved children's clothes, toys and furniture at bargain prices. There are 3 markets in May with the first being on the 4th at Werribee 10am - 1pm, Mornington on the 18th between 9am - 12 noon and Cranbourne on the 25th from 9am - 12.
