With Halloween just around the corner, there are plenty of spooky activities available from venues trying to cash in on the growing popularity of this secular festival. Unlike the scary hauntings in London, the Halloween parties and events in Sydney are more costumed fun and games. If you're still of two minds on how best to spend your Halloween weekend, you will be short of options as most events have sold out. Here are the top places where you can still get tickets to enjoy the spooky festival. But grab them now as they will also vanish into thin air very quickly.
HIJINKS Halloween Party, 30 October
Where else can you get an aquarium of vampires and zombies with sharks and stingrays for Halloween? It has to be the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. Brought to you by HIJINKS, Sydney's only underwater Halloween party will dominate the aquarium after hours on 30 October. Against the backdrop of sea creatures is a hive of activity. You can chat with a decapitated head presented by Such&Such Productions; Circlesque performer Defy presents a freaky zombie routine; Kaila Perusco will lead a Frankenstein makeover crafts workshop; Be bewildered by a Victorian ghost performance from Legs 11.11; Comedian Michael Hing will host a hilarious Halloween game; voodoo magic tricks by magician Manik Jones will amaze.
All the while DJs Dem Jeannes will spin his tunes. And if these activities are not enough, be prepared to meet the creepy crawlies that make up the diet of a platypus with one of SEA LIFE's curator Amanda Elzer. Sydney's hottest emerging artists and comedians will also engage and entertain you as you take on the role of a buccaneer and search for sunken treasure throughout the Aquarium's underwater tunnels. Book your tickets here before they swim away.
Date: 30 October Time: 6.30pm - 9.30pm Venue: Sydney Aquarium, 1-5 Wheat Road Aquarium Pier Darling Harbour 2009 Price: Adult (18 years and up) $25 includes entry and a complimentary Little Creatures beer or SKYY vodka cocktail
If you're into costumed events then the Magique Halloween Circus is the one for you. Now into its 5th year, this party is touted as the biggest fancy dress mixed performance dance event in Sydney. It is also the only Halloween Party hosted on board the largest boat on Sydney Harbour. This year's party promises a wicked night which showcases Australia's stage and close up performers.
Get ready as sword swallowers, hypnotists, magicians, jugglers, burlesque dancers, pole dancers, dance crews, musicians and DJs commandeer the vessel. The Bella Vista vessel will only take 900 people and tickets are speeding off the docks like jetskis so phone 1300 747644 for more information or grab your tickets here before they sail away. Remember to come dress up as anything or anyone for Magique Halloween Circus else you'll be walking the plank.
