Perfect presents that won't break the bank
Birthday shopping can be a chore if you have no idea where to start. It can be hard finding gifts that are generic enough to be a safe bet but unique enough that it seems as if some effort has been put in. For a special pressie that's sure to illicit a reaction, try one of the shops below!

Behind the Monkey, Mount Lawley: As the owner is a designer, Behind the Monkey's window display is always a present for your eyes- give yourself a gift and stand outside and take it in. Inside you'll find all manner of charming and eclectic goodies, from unusual jewellery, to handmade bags, to tarot decks, to grow-your-own-garden postcards to straws with moustaches attached. You'll find something for anyone in Behind the Monkey and rest assured it was hand-picked with care by the discerning staff.

The Blue Buddha, Piccadilly Arcade (as well as Fremantle, Busselton, Bunbury and Warwick): Don't be put off by the incense and crystals (which, incidentally, could be just the thing your gift-recipient needs to spice up their life!), The Blue Buddha is perfect for anyone who desires that their senses to be inspired by beautiful earthly things. The individually designed crystal jewellery is captivating and the Fremantle store stocks a wide range of delicious candle, perfume oils, books and delightful household embellishments.

Ware, Mount Lawley, Northbridge: As well as selling clothes, sunglasses and accessories, Ware has a range of great novelty gift items, from diaries and notebooks, to ice-cube trays shaped like teeth. Ware's wares are self-reflexively consumerist and certainly a bit quirky in their own way, but there's a choice of safer options, too.

Lush, Perth City: Lush is a wonderful place full of wonderful and unusual skincare and bath/shower products. If you're looking for something that smells delicious, is good for the environment, and makes the daily hygiene rituals thrilling and new then check out Lush's range of gels, soaps, bath bombs and bubble bars, make-up, haircare, lip scrub etc. etc.

The Oxfam Shop, Perth City: A double present, because you're giving back to the people who need our help the most, and you'll come away with a unique and special present!

There is a fantastic gift shop at Gwelup shopping centre too, can't remember the name but it has all sorts at all prices and I always find something to suit and a heap of things that I covet myself
