Say goodbye to the festivities of Christmas and New Year's Eve of December and welcome a month of outdoor Summer events and activities. There will be something for everyone this month in and around Perth. You can look forward to various markets, movie screenings, concerts, sailing and the Australia Day celebrations in January.
5, 12, 19 and 26 January – South Beach Sunset Market
Commencing every Saturday night at the spectacular South Beach in Fremantle, the South Beach Sunset Markets offers a spectacular summertime scene from 5pm to 9pm. Treat yourself to a feast of culinary hawker delights from all over, enjoy live music, sip on a refreshing drink from the 'pop-up bar' and watch the sun set over the beautiful Indian ocean. In its 14th year running, the Margaret River Farmers' Market is now a Saturday morning must-go-to. With over 50 stalls, each run by local produce growers, the Market is a great opportunity for new products and enterprises to gain support and consumers can interact with the producers directly and get a better understanding of where their food comes from. You can browse a large variety of local produce including fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs, meat, eggs, cheese, honey, nougat, cakes, pies and bread. WA Housing Centre in partnership with City of Vincent and Telethon Community Cinemas presents the Sunset Movies programme that is perfect for that family night out or date night. You and your family can look forward to a schedule of screenings at outdoor location across Perth. Simply bring your own chairs, pillows, blankets and snacks to munch on and get comfy. Come before the movie starts for some face painting for the kids and stand the chance to win $20,000 at the WA's Housing Centre competition. 6, 13, 20 and 27 January – Sunset@Subi Summer Concerts
An annual event, the Sunset@Subi Summer Concerts are a family-friendly series of concerts featuring musical genres tailored to suit all tastes. Pack a picnic mat or low back chairs and sit back and take in the wonderful acoustic atmosphere of a Perth evening. There will also be food vans onsite to satisfy your sweet-tooth cravings or you just want to grab a bite to eat. The event will take place at various parks in Subiaco every Sunday of this month. 26 January - Australia Day

Australia Day is about celebrating everything that's great about being Australian. While Sydney has its iconic boat races and Adelaide hosts the largest parade in Australia to celebrate this special occasion, the City of South Perth will organise a family friendly event on the foreshore of Sir James Mitchell Park. You can look forward to a Celebration Zone filled with a variety of free activities, cultural group performances, rides and entertainment for young and old. 27 and 28 January – City of Perth Festival of Sail
In its third year running, the City of Perth Festival of Sail offers a jam-packed program of sailing related events. While the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta is the main attraction, families can look forward to free sailing experiences from Elizabeth Quay. Last year's 'Discover Sailing' & 'TACKERS!' saw over 600 members of the public trying out the sport of sailing in a safe and fun environment. You can enjoy the same this year.
