I enjoy writing about Adelaide and its many attractions. If you think Adelaide is boring,
the problem is not with Adelaide.

One of the things that I look forward to in August is the SALA Festival. It rather reminds me of February and the Fringe Festival, when we have such an overwhelming range of things to see and do. This year the South Australian Living Arts Festival is showcasing thousands of artists at more than 600 exhibitions in Adelaide and country areas, and you don't even need to be an art lover to enjoy many of the free things to do.
SALA in the Garden at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens is a good example - the free ATLAS cinema soundscape in the Bicentennial Conservatory will be amazing, but you'll need to be quick as it's only on for a couple of days.
Nebula Deluxe is another SALA event in the Botanic Gardens that will be awesome. Graze on gourmet grub, and wash it down with wine and cocktails while you enjoy some spectacular performances. Do book early because this unique event will be popular, even with an $80 price tag.
Although not a SALA event, the launch of the Australian Museum of Gardening at Carrick Hill in August will appeal to art lovers and gardeners. If you take children, the Carrick Hill storybook trail is free fun for kids too.
Your tax dollars have gone to work to bring you the Winterlicious Festival with lots of fun things to do in Adelaide's Elder Park. The ice skating is fantastic fun for kids and there's lots to appeal to adults too until August 9.
South of Adelaide there's free things to do and family entertainment at the Cove Community Celebration Day on Saturday August 1. Skip lunch before you go as there's a free sausage sizzle on offer.
Music lovers will thrill to the Unley Symphony Orchestra Winter Concert on August 9, while thousands will flock to the Barossa Gourmet Weekend on August 15-16 to join in the fun at wineries like Whistler Wines.
For some reason food articles seem to be even more popular in winter, and our writers have brought you the bacon on some new food and wine around town. Find out more about the Latvian Lunchroom, taste test the newest food truck in Adelaide, drool over the food photos from Cafe Palazzo, or get recommendations on the top wineries to visit in South Australia.
