Check out some of the best free events this month in Perth:

1. PAW Patrol at Karrinyup
Taking place over both weeks of the school holidays, little kids will love the stage shows, meet and greets and free craft activities for these friendly puppies. Check out other free shopping centre school holiday activities here.

When: Monday 25th September to Friday 6th October, 2017

2. Telethon Kids Institute Discover Day
Don't let the school holidays be an excuse to stop learning and discovering. The third annual Discover Day will be bigger than ever with plenty of family-friendly science displays and activities, demonstrations, entertainment, food vans, obstacle course and more.

When: Thursday 5th October from 9.30am to 3pm
Where: Telethon Kids Institute and Mueller Park, Roberts Rd, Subiaco

3. Perth Hills Festival
Originally called the Karagullen Expo, this festival will have something for the whole family including local produce, horticultural innovations, cooking demonstrations, kids' entertainment, bouncy castle and rides, petting zoo, plant sales and more.

Where: Karragullen Oval, Karragullen

4. Swan Festival of Lights and Deepvali
Deepvali is a family-friendly, smoke and alcohol-free event that runs over a number of nights with dance and music, workshops and activities, vegetarian food stalls, arts and crafts and best of all – fireworks every night.

When: Friday 13th to Sunday 15th October from 4.30pm daily

5. Doggies Day Out
For two and four legged friends alike, the Whiteman Park Doggie Day Out is a fun day for the whole family. There are stalls and pet products available as well as grooming and baths (for the pooches not the kids).The kids will get a Scooby Doo bouncy castle and balloon dogs. There will also be a fantastic raffles where 1,000 balls will be dropped from the sky with funds going to the RSPCA and Whiteman Park's Dog Park.

6. Garage Sale Trail
The Garage Sale Trail is Australia's largest organised garage sale, with thousands of people getting involved from individual families, to whole streets as well as big community events such as the Lake Monger Markets and the Joondalup Showgrounds even. The community events also have food trucks, free entertainment and other things for the kids to do.

When: Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October

7. Wembley Downs District Fair
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Wembley Downs District Fair will be very special this year. There are side show rides, a high ropes course, petting zoo, over 50 market stalls including craft and second hand stalls, live music and all day entertainment, food stalls and so much more.

When: Saturday 28th October, 8.25am-3pm
Where: Luita Street Reserve, Wembley Downs

8. Mount Hawthorn Old School Community Fair
This lovely old-school style fair will have all your old favourites including delicious food, live entertainment and games, amazing art and crafts, a huge raffle plus more than 50 stalls showcasing handmade items from the students and families of Mount Hawthorn Primary School and local artists and businesses.

When: Saturday 28th October, 12noon to 6pm

9. Freedom Fairies Annual Picnic
Part of the Kalamunda Spring Festival, the Freedom Fairies picnic will boast a huge line-up of stories, face painting, balloon twisting, temporary tattoos, hair braiding, arts and crafts, treasure hunts, and more. Bring a picnic and enjoy a great family day out.

10. Perth Basant Festival
This huge multi-cultural and family friendly event is not only a fun day out, but benefits Perth's homeless community. There will be over 100 food and market stalls, a wealth of multi-cultural dance and performances, cultural fashion parade, rides and activities and even a fireworks display.

When: Sunday 29th October from 11am to 10pm
