December was buzzing with Christmas and New Year Eve celebrations, and the summer fun continues in January. Usher in the new year with a wide range of FREE activities and events this month. Keep the whole family entertained and learn a new thing or two with First Aid training sessions, late night openings at the Art Gallery, a Volleyball festival and cycling festival, a French and Greek festival, summer concerts and an Australia Day celebrations. There is so much to see and do around Adelaide this month without breaking the bank.

1, 8 and 12 January – First Aid Training

Here's an opportunity to pick up some first aid skills. St James is providing FREE training sessions for 16 participants per day over 3 days at the South Australia Police Academy. A beneficial skill to have, First Aid training is a great way to prep yourself with the ability to assist someone in a range of emergency situations. You will be able to learn and practice First Aid under the instruction of qualified instructors. For more details and to register for FREE, visit the website.

4 January – First Fridays

Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Art Gallery on the first Friday of the month as they stay open after hours with exceptional talks, live music and a showcase of the latest displays and exhibitions. The focus is on Aboriginal art and music. Grab a bite to eat or something to drink at the Art Gallery Food Wine, look through the items at the Gallery Store and revel in the abundance of art and culture which surrounds you. 5 to 13 January – Summer Sets

Energise your Summer with a nine-day festival of beach volleyball accompanied by DJ's and heaps of activities. Summer Sets will bring a vibrant and exciting vibe to the gorgeous Glenelg Beach as the longest running Beach Volleyball Tournament in Australia comes to town. 10 to 20 January – Santos Tour Down Under

The Santos Tour Down Under is a 10-day festival of cycling and one of premier sporting events in Australia. A range of other events and participation rides create a huge festive atmosphere for cycling enthusiasts in the city, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and Fleurieu Peninsula. You can join in the opening celebrations, race day starts with entertainment, street party and sit back and watch the cyclists whizz past. 11 to 13 January – Adelaide French Festival

The Adelaide French Festival serves up an exciting program of music, theatre, dance, food, wine, art and fashion. With something for all ages, you and your family can celebrate summer, life and the rich culture of France right here in Adelaide. The festival is excellent for those who would like to discover more about France and its cultures through movie screenings, market stalls, music performances and arts and craft. 12 and 13 January – 40th Delphi Bank Semaphore Greek Festival

For all things Greek, there can only be the Delphi Bank Semaphore Greek Festival. It is one of the country's premier Greek cultural festivals and also now one of the largest of its kind in Australia. It is a volunteer-driven event and all profits go towards the Port Adelaide Greek Orthodox Church. You and your family can immerse in celebration of the rich Greek culture and heritage through cultural dance groups, a DJ, competitions, live bands, virtual events, fun rides and delicious Greek food. An annual event held in Port Lincoln over the Australia Day long weekend, the Tunarama Festival is in its 58th year! It is a showcase of events and activities including arts and cultural displays, performances, fun rides, firework displays, local market stalls and some of the freshest seafood in South Australia. 26 January – Australia Day in the City

This year, celebrate the Aussie spirit at the largest Australia Day celebration in South Australia. Held in the heart of Adelaide at Elder Park, join over 40,000 people to celebrate our national day. The festivities will start off with a Parade which includes more than 4,000 people celebrating what they love about Australia and being Australian. It is the largest parade of its kind in Australia. You can view over 150 community groups, vintage cars, horses, marching bands, a giant echidna, floats and so much more! A magnificent fireworks finale will bring the night to a magnificent close. 27 January – Henley Square Market

One of the most popular street boutique markets will be held at Henley Square and offers artisan designs made by local makers, artists and designers. Winning the Mainstreet SA Award for the Best Market/Street Activation in 2018, it offers activities such as face-painting, fun rides and a DJ in addition to the stalls.
