Attention foodies - 6 choices of food festivals in May
If you are a "foodie" or just love to eat, or if you like to drink and taste new foods, then this list is definitely for you. It is the top six Festivals for May, 2018.

1. ALL YOU CAN EAT MEAT
Celebrate Good Beer Week in one of Melbourne's most picturesque locations, alongside the best brewers in the business, Brewmanity Beer Co. and Shifty Lizard Brewing Co. (SA).

The Good Beer Week BBQ is back and this year it will be even better than last year and at just $35, you will get "ALL THE MEAT YOU CAN EAT!" This will be at the Riverside Bar, Federation Wharf, Federation Square on 12th May, 2018, and will be on from 12.00 noon until 4.00 pm.

This is not your typical buffet, however, as it will start with an assortment of delicious cured artisan small-goods. After this, you will have juicy flank steaks, mouth-watering beef ribs, and flavoursome Lancashire & Cumberland sausages - makers of the best sausages!

There will be a barbecue and one of the items will be a whole suckling pig cooked on a charcoal spit - if you have never tasted pork cooked this way, then you must try it now.

And for the vegetarians who attend - fear not - there will also be a range of healthy, hearty salads, as well as a vegetarian menu. You can buy your tickets at this link.

2. FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL
Food trucks are a great way to have a meal as everyone can choose the type of food they want as against ordering in a themed cafe or restaurant. This will be on from Wednesday 2nd May to 6th May, 2018 and hours on the Wednesday and Thursday are 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm; while hours for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are 11.00 am to 10.00 pm.

The people behind The Food Truck Park are putting on the biggest food truck festival Melbourne has ever seen and it will be held at Birrarung Marr, Batman Avenue, Melbourne.

Dividing the festival into north, east, south and west Melbourne, this festival features the best trucks from each neighbourhood. Festival foodies will get lots of their favourites - if it is delicious, and in a food truck, it will be there!

3. GABS BEER, CIDER AND FOOD FEST
GABS Beer, Cider and Food Fest brings together the very best breweries and cider makers in Australia and New Zealand. It will be held from Friday 18th to 20th May, 2018 at the Royal Exhibition Building, 9 Nicholson Street, Carlton.

Times are:
Frday: 11.30 am to 4.30 pm, 6.30 pm to 11.30 pm
Saturday: 11.30 am to 4.30 pm, 6.30 pm to 11.30 pm
Sunday: 11.30 pm to 4.30 pm

Costs are: Single session $40; Beer Buddies 5-9 $35; Beer Buddies 10 $30; Season Pass $95 (plus booking fees).

There will be 170 unique festival beers and ciders brewed especially for the event and also some of Melbourne's best street food. These beers and ciders are unique, one-off's, limited releases.

Try your luck, or is it skill, at the Holey Moley Golf Club and Colonial Caddyshack and/or learn from the best at the Brick Lane Craft College and Ariston Food and Drink Experience. And don't forget to take a spin on the Yenda Wheel of Beer!

This will be a fabulous festival and you can find out more about it at this website, and for festival highlights in detail, go to this link.

4. ITALIAN WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL
This will be held on 27th May, 2018 from 10.00 am to 6.30 pm at the Royal Exhibition Building, 9 Nicholson Street, Carlton.

Italian food - many of us love it and seek it out at the many Italian run cafes and restaurants around Melbourne. At this event ,you will be able to get your share of street-style pizza, pasta, as well as drinks, entertainment and spaghetti and similar meals for the children.

There will be over 200 wines to taste, you can meet winemakers and importers, or you can even go to an Italian wine masterclass. There will be a pop up restaurant with Italian snacks as well as all your favourites, which you can feast on while Melbourne's top Italian chefs share their cooking ideas on the main stage.

There will be cheese, salami, pasta, coffee, olive oil, bread, fruit and veggies, pastries, gelato and more!

Make your bookings at this site.

5. WICKED DESSERT FESTIVAL
This will be held on Saturday 6th May from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, at the Prahran Markets, 163 Commercial Road, South Yarra. If you are a "sweet tooth" like I am, then this is the one for you! If you are a chocolate lover, note that this is not only about chocolate!

It is an annual event where all things sweet will be celebrated by having the very best food to tantalise you. The Festival will also have a "demonstration kitchen", pop up market stalls, live entertainment and more.

For the past two years, Prahran Market has hosted the Wicked Chocolate Festival but, due to popular demand, it is going one step further to encompass all desserts!

Elizabeth Street will become a "dessert lover's dream", with stalls selling anything from scrumptious doughnuts to cream pastries, luxury chocolates to crepes.

Demonstrations will be held at the Omega and the Neil Perry Kitchen every hour from 10.30 am, including Tobie Puttock.

6. KELLYBROOK CIDER FESTIVAL 30TH ANNIVERSARY
This will be held on 5th and 6th May, 2018 from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm at Fulford Road, Wonga Park.

This is a big event for this festival as it is their 30th anniversary, and it is Australia's longest running and most popular cider festival. There will be the famous Scrumpy, fabulous bands (Quarry Mountain Dead Rats, The Scrims, The April Family, Mission Brown), the beautiful Oak Tree and Gardens, and Morris Dancers.

And food will not be forgotten as their will be vendors selling:

Burgers
Calamari
Crepes
Indian cuisine
Apple pies
Much more

There will also be some great birthday celebration ideas! Organisers have created their "Forgotten Orchard", which is a limited release sparkling cider from their very first heirloom cider trees on the property. This will be a family fun day with games and prizes to be won.

Riders Brew Co. beers will be on tap plus their great range of Kellybrook wines.

Why not bring along your friends and family, your picnic blanket, your "dancing legs", and join in making history with the Kelly family!

You could even win a dance prize which will be on for the 30th!

Your Comment
Food trucks which once only complemented other festivals are becoming the attraction in their own right but for me, the Wicked Dessert Festival is hard to beat.
