Do you prefer vinegar, tartare sauce or lemon?
If you are on holidays in Nelson Bay, or just have a craving for fish and chips on the beach, then you have many tasty choices at your fingertips around the Nelson Bay region. With such a plentiful supply of fresh fish getting delivered to the marina daily, you really can't go wrong with any of the fish and chip takeaway venues around the area. Nothing beats the alluring aroma of hot chips coming out of the doorway of the local takeaway!
Keep reading for the main choices around the bay - but if you have found a takeaway shop that offers fish and chips that I haven't mentioned here, please leave a comment at the bottom of this article and let us know. So what are you waiting for? Get your appetite ready and enjoy some fish and chips on the sand, this weekend!
Looks good, doesn't it? Image: Bub's Famous Fish & Chips Facebook
Bub's Famous Fish & Chips is also located nearby on Teramby Road, with a wide range of battered fish options to choose from. You can also sit and enjoy your meal at this location, with a small seating area and views over the water. When you have finished, visit the seafood shop next door and check out the local catch. See here for details.
Bay Harbour Cafe is located at the end of Teramby Road in Nelson Bay and it is a scenic spot to pick up your fish and chips, right on the water where the fishing trawlers come in. You can sit and enjoy your fish and chips at tables along the waterside, or take them up the rockwall and enjoy the view further along. There is only a small amount of parking nearby, so I would recommend parking in town (or on the headland above on Laman Street) and walking to the area. See here for details. For a full article on this venue, see here.
Bay Harbour Cafe, Nelson Bay
John Dory Seafoods is a little takeaway shop located on Magnus Street in the heart of Nelson Bay, so it is a handy spot to pick up a takeaway and take it back to your hotel, or down to the marina. See here for details.
Dolphin Watch Cafe is a takeaway shop located further along the waterfront, with parking and toilet facilities nearby. Pick up your meal and sit at their tables out the front, or take it to some undercover picnic tables nearby, or alternatively sit on the sand at the beautiful Little Nelson Bay. See here for details.
Salt Mine Fish & Chips is located on Soldiers Point Road at Old Salamander Bay Shops, so it is a good location if you are staying at Salamander Bay or Soldiers Point (particularly Big4 Ingenia Holiday Park - Soldiers Point). Stop off and pick up your fish and chips and then take it to nearby Wanda Beach, Bob Cairns Reserve or George Reserve, to sit and enjoy it with a view. No website available.
Bites on the Bay is located on Beach Road at Little Beach, near the entrance to Halifax Holiday Park. This little takeaway doesn't have a website or Facebook either, but it is a handy spot to pick up fish & chips by the water.
Aussie Bob's Fish & Chips is a well-known takeaway shop on Tomaree Road in Shoal Bay, with a range of fish and chip options. This shop is located just a short walk from the white sands of Shoal Bay, so you can sit at the picnic tables in the shop or take your fried goodies down to the sand and enjoy them with the best views in the region. See here for details.
Fingal Bay Takeaway on Market Street offers a wide range seafood options, with fish packs for the whole family. See here for details.
There are so many decisions to make - where will you try first? What will you order? Do you prefer vinegar, tartare or lemon? Salt, no salt or chicken salt on your chips? It's a tough life, but someone has to make the big decisions! Enjoy your time in the bay...
