From its gorgeous coastline to the stunning hinterland, the Sunshine Coast is jam-packed with exciting family-friendly things to do and places to visit.

Below is a list of the best destinations for your next family day trip. Choose one that best suits your family's interests, or plan a holiday and visit several.

Bellingham Maze

Open 9:30am-4:30pm, Thursday-Monday (during the school term) and every day during school holidays.


Bellingham Maze has recently changed ownership but continues to provide fun and challenging activities for all members of the family. It's main attraction is a 80x80m lilly pilly hedge maze, however, it also offers a large timber scrabble maze, a tyre maze and a small rope maze.

Families can also enjoy a round of mini golf or a light meal at the onsite tea house.

The Old Train Tunnel, Dularcha National Park
Paget Street, Moolollah, Q 4553

Families with budding adventurers will appreciate this historical attraction. Explore a 93.5m long heritage listed tunnel, built in 1891. This may be daunting for some younger children, but there is sufficient light to see through the end of the tunnel.

The tunnel is accessed via a 2.1km walk from the southern end of Beech Road, Landsborugh or a 900m walk from the northern entrance of Paget Street in Moolollah.

Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World

Maleny Botanic Gardens features 16 acres of stunning gardens with easy walking paths, shaded rest areas, lakes and waterfalls. Children will particularly enjoy a delightful fairy garden and a 1400m2 aviary with over 400 birds. Entry to the aviary is available through guided walk-through tours, some birds may even land on their head, shoulder or back!

Admission is $31 (adults), $26 (concessions), $10 (children aged 3-14 years) or $72 (family).

Thrill Hill
74 Schubert Road, Woombye, Q 4559
Open 10am-5pm daily, September-June


Located just past the Big Pineapple is the Sunshine Coast's only waterslide park. Families can enjoy a 120 metre hydro slip-slide with the option of using mats (provided) for a quicker experience. This slide is built into the side of a hill and younger riders may easily tire with the repeated walk to the top of the slide.

Entry to this venue also includes access to covered picnic facilities, barbeques and an on-site kiosk.

General park admission is $2.50. Price for one hour unlimited water slides is $17.50 (ages 5 years and older) and $10 (children under 5 years of age.

Aussie World
73 Frizzo Road, Palmview, Q 4553
Open 10am-5pm daily


This theme park has over 30 rides and games for all members of the family. Aussie World also features a water play area, mini golf facilities, "illusionarium" and children's shows and roving entertainment.

Families wishing to enjoy a meal can access the The Ettamogah Pub and café.

HQ Wildlife
Nambour Connection Road, Woombye, Q 4559
Open 9am-4pm daily


Wildlife HQ, located at the iconic Big Pineapple, is home to over 100 species of animals. Many of these residents were relocated from the former Alma Park Zoo.

Families can stroll through the grounds at leisure or participate in a guided informational tour. Various animal encounters can be prior arranged at additional costs.

Park entry is $15 (children 3-15 years), $22 (seniors), $29 (adults) or $79 (family).

The Ginger Factory
50 Pioneer Road, Yandina, Q 4561
Open 9am-5pm daily


Take a guided tour of the Buderim Ginger Factory and see how ginger is grown, harvested and turned into a delicious range of products. The venue also offers train and boat rides, bee shows and taste testings (charges apply).

Families can enjoy stunning rainforest gardens and playground areas, followed by a visit to the onsite cafe, ice-creamery and retail stores.
