SLAMMERS OR SMOOTHIES - TAKE YOUR PICK!

WHETHER you're looking to to enjoy some of the infamous Mexican distilled spirit with a night on the town or you're knocking back the OJ in preparation for the action-packed day ahead, I share with you the best reasons to see the sun rise on the Sunshine Coast with my what's on guide for the start of the new season in this month of MARCH.

NIK'S PIK
IT has to be said - those of you lucky to live or are visiting the Sunshine Coast - we're certainly not spoilt for choice this month. Event after event has popped up in my calendar for March, so much so that I'm a little late on delivering my critique for those clambering to get out and about and in amongst it.

Seriously - just take a look at what awaits you in the next three weeks. You have the biggest international surfing festival where some of the greats will be on our doorstep, a mouth-watering culmination of the best cheese producers in the region in the one place, a hunky Olympic medallist tackling our gorgeous beaches, a fiercely competed national triathlon and the colour and fanfare of Australia's dragon boat titles. Just what was I too choose? Any one of these has what it takes to to be the must-see event of March on their own.

So I took a different, and I am sure some may say controversial, tact and decided instead to urge people to go green! 2013 marks seven years since the inaugural Earth Hour was held in Sydney Australia. 2.2 million Sydneysiders and 2,100 businesses participated and while hopes were high of a nation following suit, the world had bigger plans. Now almost 7000 cities across the world take part - but what exactly to do without any electricity?

Recent international research shows people's favourite "lights out" activity is sex. (Surprisingly sleep actually rated a distant #3 ) But if you want to know what to do with the other 50 minutes - my suggestions include a candlelight dinner (I'll be busting out my best My Kitchen Rules menu for hubby), grab some takeaway from your local fish and chips and head down to your favourite beach for some star gazing (weather permitting), set yourself up for an unplugged jam session (my Year 8 recorder and new guitar sits waiting for unsuspecting said hubby in what is set to be the greatest duet since Elton John and Kiki Dee) or hold a campout in or outdoors and relive those favourite ol ghost stories.

There's a million possibilities - just waiting for you to jump in!
