Let's face it. It's been a particularly cold and bitter winter here in Perth. Spring feels just like a technicality. Here is hoping that all these fabulous events in October really see the start of the real warmer weather. Grab a coffee and a pen - this is a huge list of incredible events.

Awesome Arts Festival
Running until 6th October
Perth Cultural Centre

The Awesome Arts Festival springs up again for the school holidays with an incredible range of (mostly ticketed) theatre, dance and music shows as well as range of free activities for kids and families. Kids have the chance to try the most amazing things from learning how to be a theatre reviewer to fantastic free lunchtime concerts (from other kids). Make sure you head along to the special market stalls dreamt up and run by the students at various schools.

Twilight Makers Market
Friday 5th October
Yagan Square, Perth

This special evening event includes some of Perth's best local artisan and handmade stalls as well as the range of food available at Yagan Square.

Briktober
Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October
Curtin Stadium, Curtin University, Bentley

If you've never been to Briktober and have more than a passing interesting in the colourful bricks, you're missing out. As well as raising money for great charities, it's a chance to goggle at some incredible building by the local Lego community with displays from the small to the great. Timed entry helps people move freely and there are always food and market stalls to enjoy after.

Railfest
Sunday 8th October
Railway Museum, 136 Railway Parade, Bassendean

If you've never been to the Railway Museum then this is the perfect opportunity because they are launching some new changes at the museum with a special open day which will also include a swap meet, kids activities, model railways, displays and demos and much more.

World Singing Day
Saturday October 20th
Yagan Square, Corner of Wellington and William St Perth

Join in for the Perth event celebrating World Singing Day with the biggest every group karaoke singalong. Lyrics will be displayed on the huge 360 screen as everyone joins in with classic songs. You don't need to be a talented singer - it's just about spreading the joy of singing.

Pitch for Good
Thursday 11th October
Perth Town Hall

If you have $30 and a couple of free hours did you know you can help change the world? Well, at least you can help change Perth. This is a fascinating and impactful event which will see some innovating and exciting social enterprise projects being pitched for a share in thousands of dollars. Everyone who attends gets 3 x $10 voting chips so you can send your money to the projects you deem the best, and the City of Perth will match pledges on the night.

Conscious Living Expo

BeauVine Food and Wine Festival

Head to this outdoor food and wine event returns in the green surrounds of Birdwood Square. Pick a session and enjoy two hours of complimentary wine tasting as well as pop-up restaurants, live music and DJs, a Ferris Wheel, plus market stalls and more.

Dog Refuge Home Open
Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October
Shenton Dog Refuge, Lemnos St, Shenton Park

If you love dogs or just love a bargain, head along to the two day Home Open at the Shenton Dog Refuge to help raise funds for the home. On the Saturday, there will be a huge jumble sale with clothes, books, plants, toys, goodies for dogs plus live music, food and more. Sunday will have the jumble sale again as well as a fun day for kids with face painting, scavenger hunts, raffles, dog competitions and more.

Mandurah Children's Festival

With a theme of sports and games, there will be plenty of free activities, events, entertainment and interactive workshops at this huge Mandurah event. Adults will enjoy plenty of market and food stalls and kids are encouraged to enter the dress up competition where all entrants win a prize.

Eat Food Festival

Mounts Bay Sailing Club, Australia II Drive, Crawley

For food lovers, this is a market dedicated to all things gourmet. Run by the MiLi Markets team you will find everything from hot food stalls, freshly baked breads, beer and wine and plenty of other WA produce. Kids are welcome and there are plenty of lawns (not to mention the river) for them to play in.

AKKA Martial Arts Open Day

If you've always wondered what it's like learning the martial arts, here's your chance. Live Lighter Perth Basant Festival
