1. Melbourne Cup Carnival A week of Spring Racing, with the unmissable race that stops the nation – the Emirates Melbourne Cup, on Tuesday November 3rd at Flemington race track. Other major racing events to choose from – AAMI Victoria Derby Day, on Saturday 31st October; Crown Oaks Day, on Thursday 5th November; and Emirates Stakes Day, on Saturday 7th November. Something for FREE during racing season? The Melbourne Cup Parade of Champions on Monday November 2nd (12-2pm) is where past winning horses, jockeys and trainers will parade along Swanston Street (from Bourke Street) to Federation Square.
2. QVM Summer Night Market The original and the best, the QVM Summer Night Market runs every Wednesday night, 5pm-10pm, from November 4th to March 30th (excluding December 23rd and 30th), at the Queen Victoria Market. Shop for locally made clothing, jewellery, arts and crafts, and prints; excite your taste buds with hawker style food from around the world; relax with a glass of wine, cocktail, beer or sangria; and be entertained by talented local musicians playing original tunes, live. This is a FREE, family friendly, outdoor event.
Foodie's paradise, Taste of Melbourne returns to Albert Park, from Thursday November 12th through to Sunday November 15th. Sample food from Melbourne's top restaurants, drink wine from local vineyards, take part speciality master-classes, be inspired by Masterchef demonstrations, and enjoy speaking to artisans while browsing and treating yourself to their finest produce.
Entry from $25, tasting plates from $15-$25, wine tastings and some food samples for free. Great food and entertainment in a relaxing outdoor atmosphere.
4. Melbourne Music Week (MMW) Enjoy concerts, DJs, films and workshops from over 200 international and local artists during Melbourne Music Week. Ticketed and free events for eight days of top entertainment, from November 13th-20th. Plan your days and evenings from the full program of events.
The MMW HUB this year is the former Royal Women's Hospital site. A selection of food from some of Melbourne's most popular food trucks, will be available for purchase on the outdoor deck, as will be drinks from the fully stocked bar.
5. Night Noodle Market
The Age Good Food Month Night Noodle Market is not just about noodles, but hosts over 50 food stalls and food trucks showcasing the diversity of Asian cuisine. Three bars will keep your thirst quenched, and great music and a lively atmosphere will keep you energised.
Birrarung Marr will be transformed into an Asian Hawker-style night market, from 5pm weekdays, and 4pm on weekends, November 12th to 29th. FREE entry. Plates from $5-$15. Try something new!
