This year Victoria will host a suite of major events that attract people from all over the world, so as locals we are spoilt for choice to enjoy the best of summer. What's your fancy? Performance, music, sport, displays and festivals - there's always something happening, don't miss out! For detailed reviews of each event click on the websites linked to the event.
Here are some special events to enter in your diary now!
This event features a host of acts and music including jazz and a tribute to Taylor Swift. Performers can be viewed across five stages as well as roving acts. The animal nursery will be set up all day, there will be cooking demonstrations, classic car display, art and photo exhibition, local beer and wine tastings. Of course, you can buy a mussel or 10 ton. This great family event is only $2. www.portmusselfestival.com
Midsumma Festival 15 Jan - 5 Feb Alexandra Gardens, St Kilda Rd, Melbourne
This is the annual queer celebration attended by over 160,000 people. A suite of arts and cultural events spread throughout Melbourne and Regional Victoria. The festival includes activities including visual art, theatre, sport, cabaret, live music, and public forums. The Pride march celebrates Victoria's gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersex and transgender community. It is held on 29th Jan. Check out their website for events in your area.

Festival of Sails 21 - 28 Jan Royal Geelong Yacht Club & Geelong Waterfront, 25 Eastern Beach Road, Geelong
While the on-water racing might be the highlight, there will be entertainment all the way along the foreshore, including music, kids' entertainment, sports displays and performances. Fantastic food, wine and markets (including a twilight market) are all a part of the festival. Among the performers, the legendary Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows will perform, with X-Factor runner-up Dean Ray, Melbourne's The Badloves, blues stalwart Blues Mountain are part of the impressive line-up.
The festival of Sails will feature with an iconic Australia Day fireworks display on January 26, at 9.30pm.

A number of prime areas for spectating and activities for kids and adults are available
Billed as Australia's largest music festival and biggest free summer celebration, the St Kilda Festival is expected to attract over 400.000 people. It is in an ideal location to enjoy the beaches, local cafes and everything St Kilda has to offer. The streets are closed to through traffic to cater for the multiple stages, performances, workshops, extreme sports, carnival rides and entertainment for kids. Pets are allowed at this event.
White Night Australia
18 February Melbourne CBD, Flinders Street, Melbourne
Inspired by the Paris White Night event, Melbourne and other big cities around the world now light up for the night offering loads of colorful cultural fun. The streets, laneways and gardens will be lit up from dusk until dawn and it's a free event. Cultural institutions, theatres, galleries, restaurants and bars will keep their doors open to provide music, food, film and performances all night. The event includes exhibitions, street performances, illuminations, installations, film screenings, music, dance and interactive events.
Superbike World Championship
24-26 February Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Back Beach Road, Cowes
