Toodyay and Northam are just a short drive from many areas throughout Perth and this is easily done in a day. These areas in the Avon Valley are always a delightful place to spend some time and as such, they often have some interesting events to attend.

This is a list of some of these for September and October.

[b] 1. R U OK?[/b]
This is a day of racing where you attend with your friends and ask R U OK? It is a day to ensure that people feel connected and those who have suicidal thoughts are helped by giving them a chance to talk about it. It will also be a day of interesting racing on the track as well as comradeship and talking with friends.

This will be held on 13th September 2018 from 11.000 am to 6.00 pm. It will be held at The Northam Race Club, 175 Yilgarn Avenue, Northam, and it is a FREE event.

[b]2. 2018 Northam Masterclass[/b]
If you have ever wanted to learn all about night photography and how to take those great shots you sometimes see, then this is the class for you! Here you will learn how to take photos of a lovely night sky and most cameras are able to photograph things like the Milky Way.

The class is for beginners as well as enthusiasts and will teach you everything you need to know about night photography. The class will be taken by David Magro and you can make your booking here . Book as soon as possible as this will sell out.

Cost is $200 and it will be held in Northam (amongst other places), on 9th September, from 5.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

[b]3. Small Landholder Workshop Series[/b]
Muresk Institute is hosting a series of workshops for small landholders, rural farmers, and hobby farmers. They will teach you the skills to better manage your landholding. This will be over three workshops, where you will have the opportunity to make a plan for your property. This will, in turn, help you reach your desired lifestyle.

You can do the whole course or just those workshops that are of interest to you.

The three workshops are:

Workshop one: Property planning, on 16th September

Workshop two: Livestock health, handling and animal welfare, on 21st October

Workshop three: Livestock biosecurity and breeding, on 11th November

[b]4. Kids Big Day Out [/b]
This is a fun-filled day for children, and it will be held at the Northam Race Club, 175 Yilgarn Avenue, Northam. Entry is FREE as is the children's entertainment and a lot more!

This event will be held on 24th September from 11.00 am to 6.00 pm.

[b]5. 165th Toodyay Agricultural Show 2018[/b]
This is a genuine country show where there is entertainment, displays and exhibitions. The Toodyay Agricultural Show will have local producers exhibiting, plus several different arenas for animals. The show will also have unique exhibits by local artists and craft people.

The entertainment will go on throughout the evening before a special fireworks display finishes off this great day out for the whole family.

It will be held at the Toodyay Showgrounds on 6th October, from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm. Equestrian Ring events will commence at 8.00 am.

[b]6. Gannon's Ladies Day[/b]
Ladies, this will be a day full of fashion, fun and racing! Gannon's Ladies Day is a day not to be missed. Midland Gate Fashions will be on the Field, as well as live entertainment and a High Tea Marquee.

It will be held on 7th October, from 11.00 am to 6.00 pm, at the Northam Race Club.

[b]7. XXXX GOLD Northam Cup Day[/b]
This is the big one, the XXXX Gold Northam Cup! Make sure you go trackside for a fun day. You can watch some of WA's best gallopers running on the track.

You will also be able to see some of the best-dressed locals in the Fashions on the Field.
