Sun 15 Apr 2018 - Mon 30 Apr 2018

There are many vegan and vegetarian events which are held each month in Perth, and having been to one of these, I found it quite fascinating. Although I am not vegan, I found it interesting to see what diverse and tasty foods can be prepared using no chemicals in the vegan style.

This is also a list of some animal fun related events, as well as a few other interesting ones.

1. RADICAL RECYCLE SWAP PARTY
Maggie, Lizzie and the pups invite everyone to her "recycle and swap fundraising event".

Recycling and swapping items is a great way to share unwanted goods and often to pick up some great treasures.

They will be auctioning a framed Moby Poster and Moet Vegan goodie hamper online and at the door. The cost is $20 with all proceeds going directly to Possum Valley Animal Sanctuary.

You will be able to get drinks and snacks throughout the day and of course, those wonderful wags from the woofs.

The event will be on 7th April and goes from 11 am to 11 pm, so bring all the goodies you wish to swap with you and have a browse for items you wish to grab - items will be free (ie. crockery, clothes, books, CDs, DVDs etc.) It will be held at a private house in Morley, and the address will be sent after you book here .

2. HBF 3 WATERS RUNNING FESTIVAL
The HBF Bunbury 3 Waters Running Festival is on 8th April and is the 37th consecutive Bunbury Marathon. The course is designed to showcase Bunbury's natural assets.

The name is because the run takes in three lakes - Leschenault Inlet, Koombana Bay and the Indian Ocean.

Runners in the marathon, ultra-marathon, half marathon run and walk, will receive a commemorative medal. There are cash prizes for event winners and spot prizes for all participants. The event will run from 6 am to 1 pm at the Bunbury Runners Club, Ocean Dr, Bunbury.

You can get your tickets and read more about the event here.

3. APRIL VEGAN T-SHIRT DAY
VTSD is on the first Saturday of the month and aims to raise vegan awareness by getting people to wear their vegan and animal rights clothes, hats and stickers in public on the day.

During the day, you are asked to take a picture of yourself and post it on their event page.

4. GLUTEN FREE WRAPS AND FLATBREAD WORKSHOP
Sometimes store bought flatbreads taste a bit like cardboard! They are also filled with yeast and preservatives and mostly fillers of stripped flours that aren't really good for your tummy.

At this workshop, you will learn the techniques to make healthy gluten free wraps and flatbread with healthy ingredients like lentil flour, millet flour and buckwheat. You can even freeze them or just make them whenever you want, because they are so easy and fast to make!

This goes for 2 ½ hours (10 am to 12.30 pm) and you will learn how to roll flatbread yourself. This is a demonstration plus hands-on workshop and flatbreads do not require any rising agents or baking, so are relatively easy for a beginner.

The session will end with a sit down brunch of what you prepare, including fillings, and it will be held on 8th April. Bookings can be made here .

5. POSSUM VALLEY ANIMAL SANCTUARY TOUR
Here you can meet some of the animals at this sanctuary, however, they cannot guarantee that each animal will interact with you! These are guided tours, where you must wear closed in shoes and old clothes!

Tours are strictly by appointment, so be sure to secure your ticket here to avoid disappointment. The Sanctuary is in Mt Helena, it will be held on 14th April at 1. pm, and you can get more information here .

6. DUDE FOOD - A COOKING WORKSHOP FOR MEN
This unusual workshop will be held on 27th April from 6.30 pm to 10 pm at the Taste Budds Cooking Studio, 305 Lord Street, Perth.

Dude Food is a demonstration based plant food workshop aimed at men and teachs basic things like knife skills, adaptive cooking techniques, ,as well as basic tips and techniques to make your time in the kitchen far less stressful and much more rewarding!

There will be easy to follow recipes cards, which you can take home.

Each participant is requested to bring one ingredient from their fridge or pantry to add to a "mystery box", from which you will learn to make a meal. This item must be plant based e.g. free from egg, dairy, gelatine and meat products, as well as gluten free.

Find out more at this site.

7. WORLD WIDE VEGAN BAKE SALE
Between the 15th and 30th April, vegan muffins, cookies and cakes will sweeten everyone's day! During this period, the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale takes place and participants from all over the world are holding "Vegan Bake Sales". In 2018, it will be the 10th anniversary of this event.

By selling baked vegan goods in public places or privately-organised vegan cafes, groups, individuals and organizations will raise money and awareness for charities and the vegan idea. You can choose your own venue, what to sell and how to use the proceeds.

It's a unique and fun event and you would be part of an event that will publicise the many benefits of an animal-free diet!

You can find out more at this Facebook site.

8. GOOD NIGHT POSSUM VALLEY CHILDREN'S TWILIGHT TOUR
This event is on Saturday 28th April, 2018 at 5 pm at the Sanctuary in Mt Helena.

Come and visit Possum Valley, meet some of the animal residents, and hear more about them.

Take a walk through the Valley Forrest to spot the local and released possums, bats and owls.
