Top Events at Centennial Park - Autumn / Winter 2018

Centennial Parklands if such a pleasant place to spend a day either with the family or on your own. There are many organised activities that you can do in this area.

Before I got married, I lived in this area and always loved the proximity to everything with so much to see and do around this area!

This is a list of suggestions that you could do in this wonderful park. For more information on each of these articles, please go to this website.

[b] 1. NATURE CONNECTION WALK[/b]
This walk will be on starting on Tuesday 5th June, and all Tuesdays in June, from 6.30 am to 8.00 am. These walks can have a very positive effect on your health as well as mind, body and soul.

This type of "mindful" walking is both calming and soothing to the nervous system and can help boost your immune system. The programme will run over 4 weeks and you will explore different pathways that help you reconnect to nature and yourselves.

The sessions involve:

  • Guided meditation
  • Sensory awareness walks
  • Bush tea ceremonies
  • Nature exploration activities



  • They are suitable for all ages, and the meeting point is the Wild Play Discovery Centre, off Dickens Drive, Centennial Park.

    [b]2. SENIORS GOLF CLASS[/b]
    This will be held once a month on the first Thursday from 7th June, 2018, from 11.00 am to 12 noon. The class is taught by PGA professional, Ramon Kesur and it will be a relaxed group environment, with individual-specific coaching.

    This programme has been designed for all playing levels, with a focus on fun and a few laughs!



    It will be held at the Sydney Golf Academy at Moore Park Golf Course, and cost is $30 per class (includes ball hire).

    [b]3. ABORIGINAL ART CLASS[/b]
    This consists of three lessons on 3rd June, 1st July, and 5th August, 2018 from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm. Here you will learn how to interpret stories told through Aboriginal paintings. You will go on to create your own sample of art to take home."Shared Knowledge" will teach you about Aboriginal ochre paints, Indigenous art history and their painting techniques. You will also hear stories about [i]"traditional creation, peoples and the three Rs: Respect, Responsibility, Reciprocity to country".[/i]

    This is suitable for adults and will be at The WILD PLAY Discovery Centre, off Dickens Drive, Centennial Park.

    [b]4. LABYRINTH WALKS[/b]
    This is a self-guided walk held on the first Sunday of each month at 9.00 am. The meeting point is at The Labyrinth, off Dickens Drive, Centennial Park, and it is a FREE event.

    Here you will learn more about how to use the Centennial Park Labyrinth, and thereby improve your well-being. The walks are led by trained "Veriditas" facilitators, and they give a short introduction about the labyrinth, its history and some simple tips on walking meditation.



    You do not need to make a booking - just come along and join in!

    [b]5. THE INSIDE DIG - SUCCULENT GARDENS[/b]
    This will be held on Friday 27th July from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm

    This fun class will be taken by Angie from Yates Garden Company.

    It will be 1½ hours of hands-on gardening and succulent tips. You will be shown the secrets of growing and keeping succulents, and designing your own mini-succulent creation to take home!

    If you love these water-wise plants, or if you do not know much about them, get ready to get your hands dirty.

    The Inside Dig will be held in the WILD PLAY Discovery Centre, off Dickens Drive, Centennial Park. You will also be treated to wine, antipasto spread, and great company!

    It is suitable for beginners, and balcony and courtyard gardeners. You will plant your own succulent window box and all plants and materials are included. You will also receive additional products to keep the plants alive and healthy.



    It is suitable for adults, and the venue is The WILD PLAY Discovery Centre, off Dickens Drive, Centennial Park.

    [b]6. WILD PLAY TASTE OF BUSH SCHOOL - CAMPFIRE CLUB[/b]
    This will be on Tuesday 10th July, and Thursday 19th July, 2018, from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. As winter is coming, here you will be taught how to collect resources and make a campfire to cook some delicious treats.

    This is a two-hour taster session with the Centennial Park rangers. It will present heaps of outdoor fun and challenges.



    This is suitable for ages 2½ years to 5 years and will be at Fearnley Grounds, off Grand Drive, Centennial Park.

    Cost is $35.00 for 1 child and 1 adult, and you can book here.

    [b]7. WILD PLAY BUSH RANGERS - CAMPFIRE CLUB[/b]
    This will be held on Wednesday 11th July and 18th July, 2018 from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.

    This is a great alternative to screen time, and it will be led by the experienced team of Bush Rangers. Children will enjoy a day of wildlife, bush-craft, outdoor challenges, games and free play.

    All this will take place in the great outdoors of Centennial Parklands. The activities are designed to allow children to play outside and to learn to problem solve and face challenges.

    Here they will learn the art of fire-craft – how to light a fire from a spark without matches, and you will also make some delicious dampers!



    It is suitable for ages 5 to 12 years old and will be on at The WILD PLAY Discovery Centre, off Dickens Drive, Centennial Park.

    Cost is $95 and you need to book here as places are strictly limited.
