Easter is a fun time of year for kids. There are eggs hunts to take part in, chocolate bunnies to crack into and days off from school — what could be better? As Easter falls in the ACT school holidays, we have even more opportunity to stretch out Easter for as long as possible. Here in Canberra there are a number of ways that families can celebrate all things Easter - from Easter Egg Hunts and movies to a visit from the Easter Bunny himself. The following are 5 popular events held over the Easter period which the kids are sure to enjoy, as well as all those handfuls of chocolate.

**Good Friday (14th April)
**
1/ Darrell Lea Easter Egg Hunt will be a huge morning of family fun at Patrick White Lawns, between the National Library and Lake Burley Griffin. Event organisers Damsel & Sprout have teamed up with Darrell Lea to host an Easter Egg Hunt to raise money for the Red Nose Appeal. This will be held on Good Friday morning and tickets cost $30 per family (2 adults and 2 children), to enter the Easter zone. Once inside there will be a jumping castle, face painting, games, petting zoo, reptiles, live music and of course the Easter Egg Hunt for the kids. No outside food is permitted inside the Easter area.

The Easter Egg Hunts will be staged in age groups starting at 10:30am with the 3 and 4 year olds, then progressing every half an hour, finishing at 1pm. This scenic and central Easter event is sure to attract the crowds, whilst raising money for a good cause. See the Eventbrite website for details and how to book.

**Both Saturday and Easter Sunday (15th/16th April)
**
2/ Yarralumla Play Station is located at Weston Park and has mini train rides and mini golf for kids and families. It is a popular venue for families all year around, however it is the Easter Egg Hunt that attracts the kids every year. On both the Saturday and Sunday over Easter, Yarralumla Play Station will be holding Easter Egg Hunts which costs $12 per child and includes a bag of Cadbury eggs to take home and a miniature train ride (normally $5). There will be particular coloured eggs to find that will win great prizes. There will also be a visit from the Easter bunny, free face painting and jumping castle. Book your hourly session online, as they won't be selling tickets on the day - it will be that busy! See here for details and book through Eventbrite .

  • **Easter Sunday (16th April)
    **
3/ Old Parliament House (or Museum of Australian Democracy) will be hosting their annual The Great Easter Egg Trail in the grounds of the museum on Easter Sunday. This popular and free Easter egg hunt begins with a set of questions that takes egg hunters all around the museum to gather clues. When they are all solved, kids make their way to the outside courtyards to collect their free chocolate easter eggs. Also in the courtyards are a host of family activities, toys and crafts.

This was our family's choice in 2016 and it was an exciting adventure with hundreds of other kids, all hyped up on Easter eggs. Our daughter, aged 4 at the time, loved tracking down the clues and, of course, the free eggs at the end. After the fun and games in the courtyard, many families go inside the museum to the Play Up area, which is a quiet space for toddlers and preschoolers. See here for details.

Each year they host a free Easter Egg Hunt, with kids scrambling all around the nursery looking for eggs. Starting at 10.30am there will be one huge egg hunt for 100 children. Bookings are essential and kids can join the egg hunt up to 12 years of age. If you would like to stay for awhile and take advantage of the quaint and leafy cafe, you can also make a reservation for a special Easter Breakfast. Just like the the previous 4 events on this list, the places will fill up fast so get in early to secure your child's spot. Then stand back and watch the hunt begin. See here for details.

**School holidays - Thursday, 20th April

5/ The National Library of Australia will be showing a free Easter and school holiday movie — Hop — in their theatre, on the Thursday after Easter. This PG rated movie is about E.B., the Easter Bunny's teenage son, who heads to Hollywood, determined to become a drummer in a rock 'n' roll band. The National Library has free movie screenings each school holidays, making it the perfect way to relax with family or a have it as a handy rainy day idea.
