But where do we get to see all of this? In South Australia, it's time to get out of the city and head to the regions to experience the unique offerings that SA's top country markets have to offer.

Goolwa Wharf Markets

The Fleurieu Peninsula is blessed with many great produce makers with many of them coming together on the first and third Sunday of every month, and every Sunday during January, for the Goolwa Wharf Markets . In a town that is quickly emerging as one with so many things to do , over 80 stalls pop-up amongst the pine trees alongside the wharf offering almost everything that a person could need to eat now, eat later or take home as presents for family members. Trading hours are from 8am to 3pm.

Stansbury Seaside Market

Everybody's favourite holiday destination of the Yorke Peninsula comes alive when the multi-award winning Seaside Markets pop up alongside the seashore and the painted murals of Stansbury. Entertainment for the whole family and fresh seafood feature strongly in this market which is held on every public holiday weekend with additional days during summer. So whether you are on Yorkes for a holiday, or walking the Yorke , why not drop in for some fresh oysters and enjoy some of the entertainment and hospitality on offer. The market is open from 8am to 2pm with the exception of Christmas week when a twilight market is held.

Woodside Market

On the third Saturday of every month the Hills town of Woodside comes alive with the monthly market, an opportunity for local sellers to interact with local buyers in a convivial atmosphere. The Woodside Institute Hall holds sway with stallholders stocking arts and crafts, and other homemade goods and pastries, while outside the Hall the gardens are alive with plants, flowers, bric-a-brac, coffee and the best value-for-money bacon and egg sandwich that you'll find in South Australia from the Woodside Lions BBQ stall. The markets are open from 730am to 1pm.

Willunga Farmers Market

Packed into a small space on the main intersection in the town, the Willunga Farmers Market continually bats above average. The market highlights many local foods including fresh fruit and vegetables, baked items, pickled goods, oils, coffee blends, cheeses, meats and seafood, with enough variety for you to eat there, take away for a picnic, or to take home for the family dinner. The market is open every Saturday from 730am to noon.

Sevenhill Producers Market

In the heart of the Clare Valley, and held on the last Saturday of every month from 830am to Noon, the Sevenhill Producers Market is an outlet for some of the best products from the Clare Valley. With seasonal offerings, fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods and ever-friendly community BBQ, locals travel the length of the Valley to secure something special.

Barossa Farmers Market

Am not sure why, but the Market Burger ends up being my choice for breakfast when visiting the Barossa Farmers Market. Perhaps it is the fresh Barossa bacon, or maybe the range of sauces and local chutneys which result in a different taste every time? Held in the old Barossa Vintners shed every Saturday from 730am to 1130am, the market is a communal gathering where locals assemble for morning coffee and a bite to eat before looking to purchase some of best fine foods and ingredients that the Barossa has on offer.

Stirling Market (and Laneways)

Taking over Druid Avenue from May to August, and then expanding beyond the Avenue into the laneways of Stirling from September to April is the hugely popular Stirling Market. On the 4th Sunday of the month from 10am to 4pm, the roads and lanes around Stirling close, and a collective of the best clothes, bric-a-brac, arts and crafts, food, produce, garden, oils, cosmetics, linen and 'anything else you can think of' stallholders from the Adelaide Hills and beyond gather in a feast or famine market session. With local eateries joining in the fun, live music on offer, and some of the shadiest trees and freshest market environments, it is little wonder that this market is one of South Australia's most popular.
