A little "big girl's" day out, Mother's Day, special birthday, or even Grandma or Grandpa's birthday:
high tea is special, fancy, exquisite, and yes, a bit of a luxury for most. Child-friendly isn't the first thing that generally comes to mind when one thinks of booking for a high tea occasion, but sometimes occasions call for bringing the children, and often the children are the occasion, so we've rounded up the best of Melbourne's child-friendly high teas.

Child-friendly high tea; my boys at the Langham Wiggles' High Tea
The Langham: The Langham's Melba restaurant is becoming renowned for their Kids' Tiffin High Teas, held during most school holidays.
Barbie themes are a favourite there, but have often been balanced out in the past by gender neutral theme choices such as
The Wiggles and
the Smurfs. Prices will range, but an example of an upcoming tea is $59 per child, which includes a take home Barbie gift; $65 per adult and that includes a glass of sparkling wine.
The Hotel Windsor: School holidays are made for living it up when you're a kid, right? Well live it up for cheaper than Maccas when you bring the kids to The Hotel Windsor for their weekday offer of "
Kids-Eat-Their-Age" High Tea prices. While it's not specifically a kids' theme, the pastry chefs do create a few lovelies specifically for the kids' plates. Afternoon Tea Sitting Times & Prices
Monday-Friday: 12 noon and 2:30pm: $69 per person, (children pay their age as detailed above, during school holidays; regular price outside of holidays: aged 3-6 years $25, aged 7-12 years $40); Saturday and Sunday:12 noon and 2:30pm (changing to 3pm this Winter): $89 per person (includes an indulgent dessert buffet), children aged 3-6 years $30, aged 7-12 years $50 (the children-pay-their-age special is only available weekdays on school holidays).

Not impressed with little brother's antics (Langham)
Overnewton Castle: High Teas and Mad Hatter Parties and Teddy Bear Picnics, Overnewton Castle in Keilor, Victoria is coming into their own as the place to book with your kids for a school holiday treat or tradition. Pony rides, fete-style fair rides, face painting and more entertainment usually accompany the lovely tea served at Overnewton Castle; a child-friendly high tea for a pocket-friendly price of only $35 per adult and $25 per child at time of publication (bookings essential).
High Tea in Paris: Further afield down the Peninsula,
High Tea in Paris in Mornington offers Mummy-and-me teas, princess specials, petite teas for two, and other perfectly child-friendly and child-focused options starting from just $10 per person (bookings essential).
