Have a meal in Morley for a very cheap lunch
Coventry Village markets have had many reviews over the time they have been open. I have read good as well as bad reports on these markets, however, I really enjoy going here. They have several fascinating fish tanks near the Walter Road end and these never fail to get my attention.

The markets are casual and have a huge range of goods as well as services and food outlets. You can buy almost every conceivable product at these markets and included are two huge fruit and vegetable markets, both of which are extremely cheap.

This is possibly the biggest market in Perth and over the weekend it can be difficult to get parking, even though there are parking spaces for many hundreds of cars here. This is a list of the top 6 "cheap" eating establishments in these markets.

There are about 30 different places you could eat at these markets, ranging from very cheap to moderate. There are not really any very expensive places here, and even the more expensive ones situated on the outside of the markets, seem to have weekday specials for lunch.

1. Duck, Duck BBQ House
This is the latest one I have been to, and although they do not have lunchtime specials, their prices are very reasonable.

I have done several articles on Peking Duck here and here, and it is one of my favourite dishes.

We chose an entree of these delightful morsels at this latest place.

Entre size - very nicely presented - roll your own Peking Duck

These entrees cost just $9 each and were delicious. It was not quite enough so we ordered a pork dish and this one was too big for us to finish. This cost $12.50 and would have been ample on its own to share, making this a very cheap meal at $6.25 each!

The pork was extremely tender and there was even crackling with it. The outside of this shop has the ducks hanging up and they also slice the meat, so that you can watch them doing this through the window.

They have a large menu and also do takeaway at cheaper prices.

2. D'Big Mamma
This is a Malaysian Cafe and a very popular one. Here the chef Eric, makes homemade noodles and wanton. The dishes are quite cheap and once again, you could even share if you are not huge eaters. This place is always crowded which, to my way of thinking, means it has to be good!

I have only eaten here once, and it was fast, and the food was very good, though difficult to make a choice! It is Shop 8 and is situated near the fish tanks.

3. Diverso Italian
This Italian Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also has a good choice on their menu.

Good choice of Italian style food

This restaurant is slightly more expensive than some of the others, with the chicken parmigiana being around $19, however, it is still not expensive. The food and service were both good on the one occasion, I have been to this restaurant for lunch. It is shop 56, is near the fish tanks, and you can book on this phone number: 9275 1118.

4. The Canton Restaurant
Although I have already done a review on the Canton Restaurant, I cannot do this article without mentioning it. I have been to this restaurant possibly 6 times in the last few years, and most times I have Peking Duck here.

It is about $20 per person and you get the Peking Duck wrapped in the pancakes, as well as san choy bow made with the duck meat.

Two courses to their Peking Duck

Both of these are delicious, and this restaurant is on the outside of the Walter Road end of the Centre. They have a huge menu as well as doing dim sum every day, apart from on a Wednesday, when they are closed.

5. David, Dumpling King
This is more of a kiosk and they sell yummy seafood, chicken and pork dumplings. Dine in and takeaway is available and there are often queues to get your food here.

We have eaten here two or three times over the years and although it is not a complete meal like many of the others, their dumplings are excellent, and it is a very cheap meal.

6. Hog's Breath Cafe
I have already done a review on this Cafe here.

Although they are one of the more expensive places at the markets, they have about 8 excellent $9.95 lunch specials, so I could not miss mentioning them again. The quantities in these specials are quite large and having eaten at several of these chains, this newest one is a welcome addition to those at the Coventry Markets.

This is on the outside Walter Road end of the markets and all the outside restaurants can be reached from the inside of the markets as well. You can make a booking by phoning this number: 9466 4726.

Although this is only a list of six places in these markets, there are many more that are well worth going to, and in time I will write about some more to whet your appetite for lunch at the Coventry Markets.
