Each of these independent bookshops has a great variety and some specialise in particular subjects and all these listed are worth going to if you love books and indeed if you collect books like I do. I collect mainly older ones, however, I still buy new ones and for this reason, I have over the years been to most of these books shops.

They are in no particular order as they are all GREAT and each have their own particular charm!

1. PLANET BOOKS
Planet describes themselves as "your go-to for the slightly left wing, quirky and unique". Planet has had a long and celebrated history on Beaufort Street where they opened in December 1990.

With heaps of books, collectables and gift-ware, and with titles ranging over all genres, they are one of the better shops for the literary people of Perth. Planet caters to the alternate and the masses.

They are situated at:
638 Beaufort Street, Mt Lawley
and
192 William Street, Northbridge

2. BOFFINS BOOKSHOP
Since 1989, Boffins have been open and delighting readers with their eclectic range: from technical manuals to ravishing cookbooks, to the latest fiction and children's bestsellers, Boffins have it all!

After winning one of the James Patterson grants for encouraging kids to read, Boffins decided to focus on keeping kids reading, and so the BOFFINS BOOKS YA CLUB** was formed and you can see more about this Club [LINK=https://www.boffinsbooks.com.au/yaclub/]here.

Situated in the heart of the Perth CBD at 88 William Street, Perth, and if you do not work or feel like going into the City, they will deliver for a nominal fee.

3. STEFENS BOOKSHOP
This bookshop can only be described as fascinating! Although I do not read science fiction, I have been here, and I find it so interesting just to browse through the thousands of titles, many of which I have never seen before.

Stefen's Books is possibly Perth's newest independent bookshop. They actually specialise in crime, science fiction, fantasy, horror, comics, speculative fiction, urban fantasy and more.

The owner, Stefen, will help you find your new favourite book, whether it's new, old, rare… it may even be a book you haven't heard of yet!

Each month they have their "picks" for the month, and the reason I originally went there is that they have some rare fairy tale books which I used to collect. They also have a bookclub and you can find out more about this here .

They are situated in the city at 8 Shafto Lane, across from Durty Nelly's and The Generous Squire.

4. CROW BOOKSHOP
This bookshop specialises in hard-to-find alternative titles, as well as mainstream books, and Crow Books have amassed a cult following.

They hold a wide range of events from meet-the-author to new book launches and you can see these here.

They are situated at 900 Albany Highway, East Victoria Park, and are even open until 10 pm on Fridays.

5. THE LANE, CLAREMONT
This was one of the first bookshops I went to after arriving in Western Australia (and will not mention how long ago this was!), but it has been there for many years!

They carry a wide range of books by local, national and international authors and they will also order books in if they do not have a particular one. They describe themselves as "warm, welcoming, eclectic and inspiring for readers of all ages."

They are situated at 52c Old Theatre Lane, off Bay View Terrace, Claremont.

6. MILLPOINT CAFFE
I used to go here for a meeting every month and it is a very "pleasant" and interesting bookshop with all sorts of titles and some great children's books. MillPoint Caffe Bookshop is an independent bookstore that prides itself on offering expert advice and service for all book lovers. They specialise in catering for book-clubs and provide an ideal setting for these meetings.

They are situated at 254 Millpoint Road, South Perth.

7. WHITE DWARF BOOKS, PERTH
White Dwarf Books is the place to go for all your science fiction and fantasy book needs. They have one of the largest and best collections in Perth.

They have everything from Joe Abercrombie to Timothy Zahn, and have Perth's largest collection of Warhammer and Warhammer40K novels, as well as Giant Microbes, Mana Potions, Oatmeal posters, and much, more!

They are situated at 1/469 Wellington St, Perth CBD - opposite the Perth Train station and Myer, and are open 7 days.

8. THE BODHI TREE BOOKSTORE
The Bodhi Tree Bookstore Café is a unique, independent bookstore and café. I have been here and they have a good range of books and their books are chosen "for their purposefulness and uplifting content".

They are situated on the corner of Scarborough Beach Road and Oxford Street, Mt Hawthorn and are open 7 days.

SECOND HAND BOOKSHOPS
This was my specialty and sadly several have closed in the last few years, however, I have purchased some real treasures at the following:

9. MAINLY BOOKS**
These people sell secondhand books and have a range of vintage books, though they are not solely an antiquarian bookshop.

They are situated at 209A Bulwer Street, Perth and have been in that area for many years.

10. ROBERT MUIR OLD AND RARE BOOKS
Established in 1973, they have vintage first editions and a huge range! They are truly Perth's only remaining antiquarian bookshop and have 50,000 books in stock and can also search for that hard to find book you have been looking for.

They are situated in a heritage renovated "horse stable" at 17 Lindsay Street, Northbridge, and are well worth a visit for the collector, and I have been known to spend $275 on ONE book here!

OTHER BOOKSHOPS WORTH A MENTION**
11. Oxford Street Books who are open till 10.30 pm.
12. The Well Bookshop in Applecross Village Shopping Centre selling general fiction, non-fiction and children's books.
13. Diabolik Books & Records at 149 Scarborough Beach Road.
14. New Editions Bookshop at 41 High street, Fremantle - great bookstore.
15. Foreign Language Bookshop as the name suggests, they specialise in language books but do have some in English, and are at 572 Hay Street, Perth.
