Words on the Splendour line up
The time has come for the infamous Splendour In The Grass festival to announce its line up. The festival transpires on the final weekend of July, Friday 26 July - Sunday 28 July at the North Byron Parklands. There have been many rumours about the line up this year, now all have been answered.
As we all know Splendour In The Grass is quite heavy on our pockets. We look over the line up countless times, considering possible clashes, whether to go for the whole weekend or just a single day? Should we camp on the grounds or stay in alternative accommodation? How much money am I willing to spend? Who should I go with? What bands should I see?
I thought I would lend a hand by sharing some words on some of the bands performing that I have had the pleasure of seeing live.
Flume
Flume When Valley FIesta 2012 came around I was hesitant to attend as it was pouring rain. The main stage provided no shelter for the moshers but we did not care, Flume was blasting his delicious beats and none of us cared that we would all probably go home with the flu. The crowd moved as one, it was positively euphoric. Listen to Flume here
The Jungle Giants
The Jungle Giants The Jungle Giants are an indie pop band. I have gone to many of their gigs, from free live shows to watching them support Two Door Cinema Club. The band is lively, enthusiastic and incorporates you into their show. Keep a watchful eye for Dooris' solos - they are stupendous. Listen to The Jungle Giants here
The Rubens
The Rubens The Rubens have played all over Brisbane's night scenes. Their indie rock sound is unforgettable. You find yourself tapping out their beats on the train without realising it. The Rubens live is the epitome of hypnotising. You'll find yourself singing and dancing along in no time. Listen to The Rubens here
Dune Rats
Dune Rats Dune Rats are a two man indie pop band. They are great entertainers and are well known for their hilarious on stage banter. They have eccentric sets filled with trancey tunes and energy that the crowd devours. Be prepared to dance and laugh. Listen to Dune Rats here
Cub Scouts
Cub Scouts Cub Scouts are an indie pop band that have created their own wave of music that people have fallen in love with. Their musical talent is clearly shown through their live performances. Their sets are filled with their beautiful, quirky songs and the crowd is always sad to see the set finish. Listen to Cub Scouts here
I haven't been to Splendour since I was 19. Eleven years ago now. It was a lot more intimate then, but still pulled in the big names. Such a great fest..
