Do you work in the Sydney CBD? Or are you perhaps lucky enough to live there? You want to exercise so badly, but you're just not a gym junkie, no matter how hard you try to get addicted.

Are you done with promising yourself that you'll take your gym membership seriously this year, knowing that you'll get bored of it within a week or two? That's fine, many of us are in the same boat.

You can actually take that energy and channel it into something positive: dancing. Sydney CBD has some amazing dance schools, I've frequented some of them in the past.

If you don't live or work in the CBD, don't worry. I have you covered if you live or work in Sydney's South , Hills District (and West), Eastern Suburbs and Lower North Shore .

1. Sydney Dance Company

Located at beautiful Dawes Point, the Sydney Dance Company has many casual adult drop-in classes. Styles include ballet, contemporary, hip hop, lyrical, tap, jazz, JFH (jazz-funk-hip hop), theatre jazz, latin funk workout, stretch, pilates, body conditioning and even yoga. Scheduling information is available on the Sydney Dance Company website .

Although there are plenty of daytime classes, the evening classes tend to run in two slots - 6:30pm to 8pm or 8pm to 9:30pm. The school is open everyday. Although you can purchase a gift pack of 10 classes for $160 (this works out to be $16 each), the classes usually cost $22 per class on a casual drop-in basis. You can also buy a 3-pack of classes for $60 ($20 each) and a 5-pack for $90 ($18 each). I've actually been to classes at the Sydney Dance Company and they were a great workout.

2. Dance Central

Dance Central, much like its name, is located close to Central Station. A fantastic location that's on the way home for many people, this school is convenient and offers many styles. I've been to Belly Dance classes here. They also offer funk, salsa, hip hop, breakdance, dancehall, Bollywood, booty dance, burlesque, Samba, popping, hula hooping, Tahitian dance, Argentine tango, reggaeton and even club RnB basics.

The school timetable has more details about the classes that are currently on. Classes run on Mondays through to Saturdays. The evening classes run for 1 hour each, starting at 5:30pm and running through to 8:30pm or 9:30pm depending on the day.

Each class costs $17 on a casual drop-in basis. Alternatively, if you pay $155 you can get a discount and buy 10 ($15.50 each). I have been to classes at Dance Central and really enjoyed those too.

3. Crossover Dance Studio Sydney

Crossover Dance Studio is on the lovely Goulburn St in Sydney CBD. A great location for many CBD workers, this school also boasts some unique dance styles. In addition to breaking, LA-style (Urban), hip hop, popping, house and locking, the timetable features Kpop classes. There are community classes and some of the classes are broken down into specific elements of dance, such as footwork or open choreography. There are many classes and they run at different times of the day, the latest ones often finishing at 9:30pm or 10:00pm.

Pricing per casual drop-in class is $20 per adult, $19 for students or $17 for under 18s. You can buy a 10 class pass pack at $180 for adults ($18 per class), $170 for students ($17 per class) or $150 for under 180s ($15 per class). Regardless of your age, you can also buy unlimited class passes for $80 per week, $150 for two weeks (works out to be $75 per week) or $280 for four weeks (works out to be $70 per week).

There are also trial class passes, where you can pay $55 for 3 classes ($18.33 per class), $100 for 6 classes ($16.67 per class) or $150 for 10 classes for an adult ($15 each). Note that the unlimited class pass for an adult is only really worth it if you intend on completing four or more classes per week.

I hope that this inspires you to start dancing today. Why not take a dance class instead of being stuck in traffic?
