After the sometimes wild, and sometimes weird, weather of Winter it is a welcome change to see the signs of Spring. Flowers start to bloom, the Sun gets up a little bit earlier, and people seem to a special something in their step. So what better way to kick off Spring then by taking part in some of these September events.



This month you can choose from a real range of events, all of them encouraging you to leave the house and get outside. From the multicultural celebrations of the Oz Asia Festival , to helping out a good cause at the City to Bay Fun Run , or Adelaide's Light the Night .

If the thought of shelling out on showbags at the Royal Adelaide Show sends you in a spin, perhaps you'd prefer to check out some of the best Free Events in September like the Bay to Birdwood Run .

[SECTION]Royal Adelaide Show[/SECTION]

The Royal Adelaide Show is one of our biggest annual events, and it's not just filled with showbag-hungry kids and ride-loving teens. There's a different side to the show which is often ignored by Show detractors, the great exhibitions of animals and farm life.



Whether it's the dogs, all primped and preened ready for their shows, or the impossibly soft llamas, animals from all over make their way to Adelaide in September. You can join the huge crowds watching the somewhat ridiculous pig diving, or maybe even milk a cow for the first time.

Of course you can't talk about the show without looking at it's other side. It's loud, crazy, and a lot of the time it costs a whole load of money. There are the whizzing and buzzing rides, that fill Goodwood with bright colourful lights and plenty of screams, and the showbag pavilions , filled with more plastic toys than your local Reject Shop.



To make the most of the show, take part in it all. Grab a dagwood dog, buy a few showbags, hop on some rides, and talk to the animals. Then, once you're done, stumble home and vow to yourself (just like you did last year) that next year you really won't spend as much money.

The Royal Adelaide Show is on from the 7th till the 15h of September. Tickets are $21 for adults, $14 for children, or $56 for families.

[SECTION]Oz Asia Festival[/SECTION]

The Oz Asia Festival is your ticket to finding out more about Asian cultures. This year there is a focus on India, so you can expect the festival to be fun, bright, and full of energy.



The events during the festival range from dance, theatre, visual art, comedy, and music. A host of Asian artists will make their way down to Adelaide for the festival, as well as many Asian-Australians from around the country.



As well as all of the shows, one event you won't want to miss is the Moon Lantern Festival . See the River Torrens light up with colourful creatures and beautiful lanterns, watch live performances, and eat delicious food. It's something you can bring the whole family along to without breaking the bank.

The Oz Asia Festival runs from the 14th till the 30th of September. Prices for different shows vary, so for prices and the full list of shows head to the Oz Asia Festival website .

[SECTION]Bay to Birdwood Run[/SECTION]

Even if you're not a car-lover, it's hard not to appreciate the Bay to Birdwood Run . Scores of vintage cars start their morning at Adelaide Shores before their precession up to Birdwood. And when they say vintage, they mean vintage, only cars build on or before 31st of December 1955 are able to join in.



Don't worry if your set of wheels doesn't make the cut, there's plenty of ways to join in even if you're not driving. Breakfast with the cars starts the day, you'll get a chance to see the cars, enjoy some music, and chat to some of the owners. Then find somewhere to sit along the route, and enjoy the day as the cars pass by. You can check out the route map online .



At the finish line you can check out the National Motor Museum, dance to some swing tunes, and enjoy some local produce.

The Bay to Birdwood Run is held on the 30th of September. There may still be some spots left for late entrants, but if you're planning on becoming a spectator head to the website for more information.

[SECTION]City to Bay Fun Run[/SECTION]

In 2012 the City to Bay Fun Run is celebrating it's 40th year, so what better reason to take part. The run raises money for Athletics in South Australia, but by getting involved you can also help raise money for a range of other charities. Through sponsorship participants raise thousands of dollars for the charities of their choice.



City to Bay is one of those things that everyone can take part in. There are serious runners who compete against each other's times, but there are also mums and dads with prams, casual joggers, and even people dressed up as Santa.

You can register for the run as an individual, or as part of a group, and can choose to take part in the 12, 6, or 3km legs. Kicking off in Adelaide, the run heads down to Glenelg where there will be plenty happening.

The City to Bay Fun Run is on the 16th of September. Check online for entry fees and event details.

[SECTION]Light the Night Adelaide[/SECTION]

One of the most touching events you can take part in this September is the Light the Night walk . It's an event to help raise money and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation.



It's free to register, and by either donating or fundraising at least $20 you can carry a lantern during the walk. It's a chance to meet other people, and share stories. Each lantern means something different. Gold are in memory of loved ones, white are for people who have personally had blood cancer, and blue are for anyone there supporting the cause or their friends and family.

The Adelaide event will be a twilight walk along the River Torrens. The night kicks off at 5:30 for registration and lantern collection, and officially ends at 8:30pm. There will be food and drink available for purchase.
