If you love sports, and you have a trip to New York planned, you'll be able to catch some type of sporting event, no matter what time of year it is. In the spring and summer, there's basketball and baseball, as well as golf. If you like to "play the ponies", you can do that practically all year long.

New York Baseball

If you're into Major League Baseball, you will be right at home in New York. Depending on their schedule, you can watch either the New York Yankees or the New York Mets play. If one is an afternoon game and the other is a night game, you just might be able to catch both games in the same day. Talk about a double-header.

Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden is where you can watch the New York Knicks play basketball or the New York Rangers play hockey. You can also watch college basketball and hockey, as well as wrestling events and many more. You should be able to find a sports event that you enjoy going on at the famous arena while you are visiting New York.

Harlem Globetrotters

The Harlem Globetrotters have entertained families for over 80 years with their "clean" (as in no offensive material, but we can't guarantee you might get splashed by water, confetti, or something else) basketball games. Some famous basketball players such as Wilt Chamberlain were actually part of the Globetrotters team at one time. And, who can forget Meadowlark Lemon with his fake injuries and Curly Neal and his shots from center court—that never missed. This new group of "Trotters" is carrying on the tradition in the same way.

U.S. Open

One of the premier tennis events, the U.S. Open is played in New York in late summer. Visitors to the venue can watch this exciting match and tour the spacious grounds. There are even dining facilities at the venue, making it possible to enjoy a meal without having to leave the area. The tournament takes place in Flushing Meadows, Queens.

Horse racing

For those looking to bet on horses, choose from Yonkers Raceway, Aqueduct located in Queens Borough, or the Belmont Racetrack. Horse racing is a fun, exciting sports-related activity for anyone visiting New York.
