There are only five Lebanese pizzerias in Liverpool - so they must be the best five right? One thing that's for certain is the fact that they all seem to be doing a roaring trade. Just when you think Sydney is at bursting point with pizza franchises, these small traditional Lebanese pizza joints have been opening up not just in Liverpool, but around Sydney. They have been building a justified reputation of serving a healthy and tasty alternative to the global big boy pizza franchises at bargain prices.

Mina Pizza Shop 3/42 Elizabeth Street, Liverpool. Ph: 96022208

Mina Pizza boasts having the most extensive menu of any of the five pizzerias in Liverpool. Tarik the owner says his toppings are all fresh, not frozen, and are a healthy alternative to the standard Italian pizzas fare. Mina does the range of standard Lebanese pizzas such as Spinach and Fetta as well as a few specialties such as BBQ Chicken and a Tandoori Chicken for his many Indian customers. Tables and chairs at the front means you can eat in as well as take-away.

Munoosh Hut. Shop 8/63 Hill Road, Lurnea. Ph: 87836066

Munoosh (pizza in Lebanese) Hut at nearby Lurnea has a steady stream of customers even though its only 11.00 am when I call in. Like most Lebanese pizzerias, there is only a picture board menu with prices. Munoosh has your standard range of Leb pizza including your classic Oregano (oregano, thyme, sesame seeds, lemon and sumac) for $1.50 or a Sejuk (beef) and Vegies. Parking at Munoosh is a breeze and is take-away only.

Mineh Bakery Shop 5/187 Elizabeth Drive, Liverpool: Ph. 96027999

This place is easily the busiest of all I visited and is popular throughout the day, starting at breakfast. It has an excellent range, from a tasty Labni (a yoghurt cheese) and Vegies pizza to a mainstream sounding Pepperoni. Mineh also has cartons of alcohol free beer for sale to help wash down your pizza. There are a few tables out the front or you can take-away.

Haney Bakery Shop 3/20 Memorial Avenue, Liverpool. Ph: 96029922

The original Lebanese bakery/pizzeria in Liverpool, this place has been baking and serving up their classic Lebanese pizzas for nearly 15 years. They haven't tried to mess with the magic formula after all this time apart from introducing a dessert hazelnut pizza. Wash down your pizza with an bottle of Ayran, a traditional salty yoghurt drink. Dine in or take-away.

Ultimate Bite Cnr Moore Street and George Street, Liverpool.

The Ultimate Bite's diversified menu is the exception amongst the Leb pizzerias. Not only do they make all the stock standard range of pizzas but you can help yourself to kebabs, felafels, pies, burgers and chips. Centrally located in Liverpool, it's enormously popular with lunch goers...in fact all day! Take-away only.
