Top 5 Events to Celebrate Australia Day in Adelaide

Australia Day is on Thursday, 26 January 2012 and there are a number of events occurring in and around the city of Adelaide to commemorate this special day; so we thought we would do the hard work for you and select five of the very best events to head to.

So, let's get straight to it;

Streaky Bay Free Aussie BBQ Breakfast

Many councils will be hosting free BBQ breakfast events in and around Adelaide. This particular event is being hosted by the District Council of Streaky Bay and it will be held at the Streaky Bay Foreshore Lawns (Alfred Terrace, Streaky Bay) starting at 8.00am.

In addition to a free hearty BBQ breakfast, this event is also being held to honour the recipients of the Australia Day Citizen Award, Australia Day Young Citizen Award, Community Event of the Year Award and Business of the Year.

For further details on this event, please see the District Council of Streaky Bay website .

Celebrate Australia Day the Roxby Way!

How do you celebrate Australia Day the Roxby way? Well, you head down to the Roxby Downs Leisure Centre at 9am and indulge on a 'you beaut' BBQ brekky, participate in the official Australia Day Awards ceremony and then relax by the pool or on the grassed areas. And you guessed it, this event is free.

For more information on this family event, head to the Australia Day website.

Whyalla's Australia Day Celebrations

Our third pick is Whyalla's Australia Day Celebrations. This event is being held from 4pm at Whyalla Foreshore. There are plenty of fun activities and events to keep the family entertained at this event, including;

The Great Aussie Whyalla Family Sandcastle Competition.
The Great Aussie Whyalla Thong Throwing Championship.
The Great Aussie Whyalla Bottomless Boat Classic.
The Great Aussie Whyalla Dummy Spitting Championship.

I told you this event was fun!

Plus there will be a fireworks spectacular at 9pm.

You will also receive free Aussie flags and tattoos and there will be food and drink stalls onsite.

For more information on this event, please see the Whyalla City Council website and Australia Day website.

Australia Day Celebrations - Coober Pedy

Our next top pick is the Coober Pedy Australia Day 2012 celebrations, which kick off at 9am and will be held at the Old Timers Mine. There will be a BBQ to help raise money for the Royal Flying Doctors and giveways throughout the morning, including flags and caps.

There will also be naturalisation ceremony and Citizen of the Year presentation.

If you want to celebrate Australia Day in this unique location, see the Coober Pedy website and Australia Day website for further details .

Australia Day in the City 2012

Our final pick is one of Adelaide's major celebrations - a free Australia Day in the City concert event in Elder Park, featuring Ricki-Lee and Stan Walker.

Plus there will be an Australia Day Parade with over 3,000 participants and a fireworks spectacular.

This family friendly event will commence at 6pm.

For more information on this anticipated event, please see the Facebook event profile.

However you end up celebrating, have a great Australia Day.
