[ADVERT]When you're not quite mature enough to prepare your own lunches, but you've reached your lifetime maximum quota of two minute noodles, I suggest you try my:

Top 5 Cheap Eats in Carlton

1. Don Tojo

This is a casual Japanese restaurant with an uber simple menu. Basically these guys make consistently tasty curries which are great value for money (seriously, my curry was $5.90). Though busy, they're also crazy-fast here. I've been handed my change at the same time as my meal.

You'll find this place at 164 Cardigan St (close to Melbourne and RMIT Universities). Incidentally, they serve cheap alcohol.

2. MoMo Sushi

Cannot recommend this place highly enough Carlton's finest sushi, and under $3 per roll.

3. Cafe Notturno

Head here for classic Italian meals at pub prices, e.g. $12 for a massive bowl of pasta.

4. Lygon Food Store

Here you'll find freshly made ciabattas and loads more at $812 for deli style food.

5. Subway

This might be cheating a little, but sometimes I'll buy a foot long and have half for lunch one day, and the other half the next day two meals for $7!

So there you have my current top 5 places to eat out for cheap in Carlton. Some might even be healthy!

Why? Too lazy to cook, too poor for fancy dining, too old for two minute noodles
Where: Carlton
Cost: <$15

Minang Nasi Padang on Pelham st does 3 curries and rice for $6.50. Food is always excellent - especially the sambal eggplant.
