Getting lost is the easiest way to have fun!
Published May 28th 2012
Here in the West we are blessed with amazing sunsets almost every night of the year. Whether you're watching the sun set over the beach, the city, bushland or your front verandah there's always an urge to grab your camera to show the world. So with such a blessing where do you find somewhere that's just that little bit more special to admire dusk in Perth? Here's a few of my favourite spots that you may not have visited.

Zig Zag Scenic Drive, Gooseberry Hill
It still amazes me how many people haven't heard of Zig Zag Drive. Think of movies where a guy takes his date up to the "make out hill" and that is pretty much what Zig Zag looks like. Unspoiled views of Perth city and surrounds with incredible natural scenery in the foreground.
Zig Zag Drive - Nature at its best

The thin and windy road down the escarpment is a fun (slightly dangerous if you're reckless) drive and there's plenty of places to get a good shot. The best way to go about this is to park your car and go for a walk though. Find a clearing with some nice colours in front of you and hope the clouds show up - even if they don't the view is still spectacular and photoworthy.

Watermans Bay, Watermans
Between Watermans and North Beach sits a quiet little bay, complete with grassed area, playground and BBQs. Its a favourite amongst the locals but very few people outside the area know about it. In summer you can always be sure there will be a BBQ free here, and you wont get the young drunks and hooligans that so often appear around more popular beaches.

Watermans is a fantastic place for an evening meal and a perfect setting for the ocean sunset. Green grass, rocky cliff faces & an uninterrupted view of the Indian Ocean (and if you're lucky a conveniently placed sail boat)

Park Street, Scarborough
No, this is not the beach - there's a better place to get a corny cover photo snap of sunsets in Scarborough. I originally found this place by getting lost - we saw a steep road and decided we had to drive up it (how can anyone resist driving up a steep road right?) When we came to the top we were met by an incredible view.
Surely it's only a matter of time before a house is built here!?

The top of Park street is a panorama enthusiasts dream. 180 degree views of the Perth coastline including the Rendezvous hotel to the left, Trigg bushland right and beach side houses/Scarborough beach right below you. And whats better is how few people know about the place - your amateur photographer friends will be begging you to let them in on the secret.
