Do you remember?
The 1980's, a decade unlike any other! It had its own iconic highlights and one of them, along with the original music, are the films that were produced in this era. Here's a breakdown of some of my favourite films you can currently find on Netflix to watch (in no particular order).
Starring Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones and Jennifer Grey for every one of us that had just had enough of school and wanted to bunk off. Directed by the king of the 80s teen film, John Hughes.
Favourite quote - Ferris: Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Grease 2 was made four years after the original Grease. It was not the huge success of the original but anything with Michelle Pfeiffer in is worth watching. It's a bit of a gender role reversal where Michael is a visiting student trying to prove himself to Stephanie who's one of the new Pink Ladies.
Favourite quote - Stephanie Zinone: I ain't no one's trophy, Goose.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield in Grease 2
The Blues Brothers The Blues Brothers was released in 1980 starring the incredible Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. It is comedy gold with an equally epic soundtrack.
Favourite quote - Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. Jake: Hit it.
Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi in the Blues Brothers
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure So many quotes from this 1989 film I don't know where to begin. I do remember trying to convince a fair few history teachers in following years to allow us to watch this film in class due to its historical references.
Starring Keanue Reeves and Alex Winter in a time travelling caper unlike any we'd seen before. Rumours may be turning into reality with a third and final instalment in the pipelines with Bill and Ted Face the Music
Favourite quote - Bill: So-cratz - "The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing". Ted: That's us, dude.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure - Most Excellent
I get chills just thinking about this film, I remember watching it in my room on a black and white TV and being busted by my Mum as the screen was still glowing when she came in.
Every part of this story is scary and that is what makes it so good. You're isolated, you're trapped and it's who you love the most you need to fear the most. Directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Jack Nicholson as very bad Dad and Shelley Duvall as very scared Mum.
Favourite quote - Jack Torrance: Here's Johnny! Especially apt as I have a bother called John, so it was used a lot!
